Isn't antibacterial resistance part of the reason microbiologists won't run out of a job anytime soon?
i mean, that’s certainly one important issue microbiologists work on, but it’s not the only one. diseases caused by microorganisms are still extremely common, especially in developing countries and in communities where health care is hard to come by. and even if these diseases (including the rare ones) were all cured and we could keep up with their evolution, microbiology is still important for many other areas, such as food science and their involvement in other diseases. for example, a new area of research right now is the role of the gut microbiome in everything from cancer to mental health.
but regardless of their role in job market forces, antibiotic resistance is something that i think frustrates many many microbiologists. if anything, they’re not immune to dying from them either so...
