Is anyone gonna give the millenials the memo DNIs exist to be reinforced and literally goddamn no one on this or any website thinks someone being on a DNI is going to physically stop some people?

If I see another post like "ugh DNIs don't do shit here's what REALLY helps [list of basic internet safety rules we all already know from the fuckin 90s]" I am going to combust actually.

DNIs work because now instead of just having to block people based on vibes alone or go digging through hundreds of random posts to search for red flags you can check quickly if they're on a surface level someone you don't want to interact with.

They work because yeah no one is going to see like "abusers DNI" and be like drat my latest plan foiled </3 but a lot of proshippers, transmeds, and exclus will see these DNIs and be like UGH I'm not welcome HERE? And either block us themselves or make a Big Deal out of breaking the DNI so the whole community can be like ew lol [blocks them]

Their purpose is not to replace curating your space being careful with what information you put out and actively looking at who you're interacting with the purpose was to have a place where you put an accessible list of your boundaries and if anyone breaks them they Cannot Feign Ignorance which is a super common tactic creeps use.

Also DNIs were never meant to be inherent statements of morality and so like yeah... it IS normal to expect normal people to respect them?

Stuff like "cis/white/abled/etc." people DNI isn't an inherent statement of hatred it's a boundary that someone doesn't want to interact with people with privilege with them right now and anyone who ignores that does in fact deserve to be fucking called out for it.

And hell there's also completely trivial but still valid DNI things like "if you ship [thing that isn't bad but makes op uncomfortable]," "if you post a lot about [things that make someone feel uncomfy or a trigger]" "if you're a double of a character I kin/am" and like a million more completely harmless things that normal people would fit the criteria of and can have the respect and self respect to not break that DNI.

Like if y'all are gonna bully teenagers for existing in ways you can't keep up with whatever but you look like idiots doing it you could at least pay attention to how literally any of this works first <3
