Graham waves at her from the bottom of the soccer field and Raveena has to stop herself from rolling her eyes at the pre-teen who is entirely too attached to her to be considered healthy, but she loves him with every fiber of her being and no one can dispute the connection that the two siblings have even when they fight like cats and dogs.
It’s natural this thing they do where Raveena comes to his soccer practice just a few minutes early to watch as her brother attempts to score a goal for her benefit and then smiles bashfully at his coach who is twice his age and blonde with lean long legs that makes Raveena jealous, but she’s good friends with Emma who knows all there is to know about the boys who adore her and their parents who have been through divorces, cheating on each other and entirely single.
It only takes another two minutes before another body is seated next to hers on the cramped stand waiting for the practice to end and Raveena has to stop herself from being so stiff when a hand brushes against hers in an invasion of personal space, but the moment she sees Graham’s friend, little Henry who is half the size of the other boys wave at her, she softens and smiles back, until she realises that he waves not to her, but to the woman next to her, a woman who she had seen briefly at soccer games but never had the opportunity to speak with and of all the parents, this one is a mystery.
“Is he yours?” Raveena asks to pass the time and hopes she would be greeted with politeness instead of vicious anger at the interruption she caused at the small waving fest.
