An error in communication meant that, this time last year I was sitting one point away from failing Creative Practice. I was able to talk to the course coordinator, and from the Q&A between us I managed to work out what was needed to tick the boxes to pass convincingly the next time. I devoted a significant chunk of my summer getting better at @photoshop, going as far as getting a @wacom tablet to use with it, and I spent a lot of time on a blog where I'd write down thoughts and ideas, reflect upon visiting artists (@shaun_fraser, @realifersross; sadly I missed @erlendtait), write reports on my week's activities and analyse my practice as a whole. I remembered to bring it all back to that checklist: have I done enough, have I shown enough, have I explained enough, is it good enough. I worked hard last year and it *wasn't* enough. This year I worked hard, but I worked smarter. I worked better. I put in everything I had. It showed. From a solid lowest-of-the-low D to a mid-range A, and a much better understanding of myself and my practice, this academic year has been stressful but rewarding, and I'm grateful to those at @morayschoolofart (particularly @sylviaplantstomatoes and @stevesmith_art) for their help.
