Changing name

The name game

I didn’t change my name when we did the marriage legal paperwork in Bangkok. Living in Thailand, and moving to Hong Kong in a matter of weeks, and the logistics of getting my name changed on documents would have been a nightmare (and you do not want to do anything administrative if you are an expat living in Bangkok) it’s better to wait and do it on a visit to the UK. 

But it has me thinking whether I want to take my partners name. Why would I suddenly give up my identity to take on his? I really don’t consider myself a feminist woman and think it is lovely and romantic to think of becoming one family under one name and when we have children, I don’t want them to have a different surname to either of us; I want people to know that they’re ours, not just mine or just his.

But I have been Leanne Nicholls for these 34 years, I like her and not sure I’m willing to leave her! My parents have two daughters and my sister is happily married with her new husbands name so our line stops here. Perhaps it’s as simple as wanting to keep something of my Dad.

I have been considering other options... in my personal life I could be known as Leanne Walker… and in my work life I could stay as Leanne Nicholls… Or I could add my surname to my middle name and become Leanne Kay Nicholls Walker... I wouldn’t want to hyphenating our surnames or merging them to make up a name!

Changing your name is just a tradition, nothing more and keeping your own name shows no less of a commitment to your lives together so I’m going to get to somewhere I feel comfortable.

Chaning names/account!

Hello my all of you wonderful people that actually followed me! :D

First of all thank you so much!
