@revelres : “i’m not good with sarcasm: if you don’t like me, just say it.” - from @chantres
❛ no— i like you. ❜ he says, quickly and unsurely. he doesn't know this woman. at least not well enough to say such a naive thing. but there is something in him that wants to assure her, perhaps somewhat desperately, that he does not dislike her, at the very least. she is beautiful. otherworldly almost. hardly any woman in the villages he's travelled through compares. and there is something ethereal to her, as if merely looking at her could stop time itself.
it is strange, however, siegfried thinks . . . how alberich has withdrawn himself from his crouched position beside the fire just a heartbeat before she arrived, disintegrated into a heap of black dust, which now looks as if the wind had carried a big portion of the fire's ashes just a few inches to the side. of course, the spiteful creature senses other beings, mortal and divine. but usually he doesn't care enough to hide from them. he doesn't much care about anyone, despises only odin's kin. but why he will not tell siegfried.
the dragonslayer pauses, studying the woman from his seat upon a log in front of the little fire. he isn't his usual loud and amenable self. not as flirtatious as he would be when laying eyes upon a woman such as her. this evening, it is as if the disappearance of the warm sun has taken his joy with it, made him remember how lonely he really is out here. and the other's presence so far is only confusing.
still, led by good will, siegfried cuts a piece off the deer meat he'd been roasting over the fire. leaning over, he holds it out to her in silence, looking a bit more like a lost boy than a slayer of legendary beasts.
