Shark Daddy, can you get any more wonderful? Hearing about the Internet for the first time and immediately understands the issues with it. Keep this up much longer and you're bumping Robin out of my top 3. Seriously though...here we go again showing Egghead leaning on core Wano themes. Spelling one of the biggest implied ones out now. The collateral damage caused by great men and their ambitions. It’s the route we're running through with Vegapunk though that gets me so excited.
How did we show this with Oden in everyday human terms? Severing a sibling bond by dragging Izo out to sea carelessly. Now here we have our current time-distorted girl bitter with Vegapunk over the same, subbing a father for a big brother. Soecifically with that "heartless" weapon framing. Yes, the grander ambitions matter. But the damage caused in their wake does too. This is a really good lesson for a Shonen series at this point in the journey. Luffy differing from Vegapunk & Oden on the same lines. Oden’s privilege and strength, Vegapunk’s intellect, neither had to work for them the same way Luffy has had to struggle to be great.
It's not like I needed this to say as much, but now that we have a decent chunk of Egghead yes, it is shaping up very much to serve as that soft "Act 4" of a Kishotenketsu plot. And like we hypothesized, feels bang on for internally having that structure itself. This chapter and the past couple feel a lot like my initial guess for part 2, Sho. We've set our pieces in a way that had a lot of potential for keeping Wano's core threads alive and now they're being developed in a way that makes it explicit. Tying in well with another part of this chapter of course.
Don't think I've ever been so glad to see Rob Lucci. And of course Hattori has a mask! Love it. Almost as much as how this all ties together. Pretty much instantly. Vega mentions the weakness of splitting himself, we see it on display with Lilith being willing to turn the pirates over.
There's something else I've noticed over the past two chapters by the way, something more explicit than I figured we'd be at this point.
Hey look! Even Luffy sees a split personality and immediately thinks of Wano. Just like seeing a physically "divided" Vegapunk coming out of the robot (he dubbed Robonosuke) and immediately thinking of Kin'emon. Oh god, this is really coming full circle isn't it? Never even thought of that aspect. Of course, I’ve long since realized that if you’re on the same page as Luffy following this series, you’re usually right where you need to be. So I feel great about still having Wano on the brain. If you have someone from there who straddles all of these threads as well as Kiku, I'm all ears.
