WIP Wednesday
Milly liked to talk while in the room with Knives. Tending to Vash’s comatose brother wasn’t comfortable, and it helped her feel better about invading his privacy. Vash had continued to do most of the heavy lifting with Knives even after the blow-up with Meryl. The paler Plant was a limp and unassuming form in the bed, but even unconscious, he exuded a faint aura of menace that made both the girls nervous despite their best intentions. Milly didn’t like to spend any more time in the little room than she needed to.
“Good evening, Mr. Knives, how are you feeling? Did you have a nice day?” she chirped, folding back the blanket. “I think Mr. Vash put fresh bandages on yesterday, so would it be okay if I looked at your shoulder?” Milly gently loosened the neat wrappings and stared, troubled.
The gunshot wound wasn’t just healed. It was as if nothing had ever happened. The skin was unblemished, without so much as a depression or a faint discoloration where the bullet had struck. There were no scars, no trace left behind, nothing at all but smooth skin.
Milly unwrapped more bandages with a sense of creeping dread. No human healed like that, even with the best of medical care. She knew that Knives wasn’t human, so perhaps the rules didn’t apply, but Vash was more scarred than anyone she’d ever seen. Nothing about Vash or Knives was normal, but Vash had told them that Knives hated “body stuff” and avoided it whenever he could. The fully restored shoulder spoke volumes about Knives’ tolerance for anything but complete and absolute perfection, in himself or anyone else.
