CHAPTER: STAY THE COURSE ( FLASHBACK ) STARRING: MALACHI & AUGUST 

Let’s start here. Ashbourne Funeral Home. One month ago, give or take. The last stop, if you were a corpse. Buzzing. Buzzing. The lights flickered on, chasing away shadows and bathing the antiseptic room in a harsh glare. Everything here was just ghastly. His soles clacked on the white tiles as he was led towards a smaller room. He found it funny that  this was the first time he’d step foot in this place, specially since he was responsible for some of the bodies that were dropped here. “Did you get it?” August, was it? He knew very little of him. Just footnotes. Witch. Powerful. And obviously comfortable with the macabre. He was also the one with the answers right now. The one who had exactly the thing he needed. A small pocket sized grimoire. “Please tell me you got it.” [x]

CHAPTER: PARTNERS IN CRIME STARRING: MALACHI & ARIANA

In some way he was putting Henryk’s life in her hands, wasn’t he? So he had to trust her. At least trust that she was who she claimed she was. A bad ass witch who never failed. “Is there a nobler cause, hm?” He laughed at how ridiculous he sounded. Of course it had been a joke, but in some sense he had a point. Was there a better reason to fight? Malachi couldn’t think of one. [x]

CHAPTER: BACKLASH STARRING: MALACHI & DRESDEN

Dresden looked psychotic from this angle. Very - German. The moon bouncing off his yellow head and illuminating his pearly teeth like some big white shark. Malachi swallowed, past Dresden and giving him a little push on the shoulder. Party’s over. [x]

CHAPTER: TAKE UP THE GAUNTLET STARRING: MALACHI & KOLYA

What the actual fuck? The crowd was no longer cheering but running out of the seats towards the exit as fast as they possibly could. It was then that he saw it. Big and grey and drooling from the mouth. A werewolf? Wasn’t the full moon tonight so it was probably one who could shift at will. “Oh shit.” Because what else do you say when a rabid werewolf charges towards you? [x]

“No, Philippe. I don’t think you need my help. I think you are perfectly capable of finding this witch on your own. But let’s be honest, it is taking you quite a long time and you’d rather have her head and learn the whereabouts of your collectibles sooner rather than later. Who knows what sort of damage they might cause.” He shrugged, taking a step forward. “My knowledge is not exactly vague since I know where they do business and I’m pretty sure they keep a ledger. I can share that information with you. I just need you to stall Henryk’s initiation. And  - when the time comes, donate a little blood.” [x]

CHAPTER: FOOL FOR LOVE STARRING: MALACHI

Things were really very bad right now.  He was less than he’d ever been. Accepting the fact that Henryk was gone was like waking up from a bender, all the memories painful to open.  He’d have thought they’d get through anything  together. Even this. Maybe - someday. Have a couple of drinks, laugh about the silly things they’d said and done with their temporary lovers, promise it was over, and fall into each other the way they had since the night he confessed.  All was supposed to be done.It wasn’t. Everything was just hollow and dull. [x]

He doubted she even knew where to strike. Where the heart was. And even if she did attempt to do something, Malachi’s reflexes were far better than hers in every capacity. Which he demonstrated when she swung the branch towards his leg in an attempt to stall him. His hand reached for it just in time and crushed it, might as well have been a toothpick. Foolish girl, he thought as he watched her take off in the opposite direction. [x]

❝Twice in one week? Is this our thing?❞ The air was precious and cold, like a ghost, it waded around them delicately  as they walked. A slight brush of wind flowed across their faces, lifting her hair. The sidewalk had begun to grow quiet as they walked further to nowhere in particular. It didn’t take long for them to reach a café. It was one of those quirky ones with the rustic looking tables and chairs and a huge wine rack on the wall. It wasn’t terribly busy, but the conversations of the various human customers created a welcoming hum over the establishment. He paused, turning to his companion for the night. ❝Do you like games?❞ [x]
