I think it was almost a whole year? I lost track of the passage of time.”- It was about a year I believe. I forget the official timeline, but the cherry blossoms were falling off the trees when Izuku first met All Might, and again shrtly after/around the PLF war, which I think it like an annual thing. 3) “Yeah, not surprising that it was Midoriya that suggested leaving the school. It's not like the people there would be able to do much to stop Shigaraki and his army when round 2 starts.”- Tomura could just like, drop a meteor on the place to force Izuku out of hiding – he’s the only one that has the strength to block/resist that kind of attack now. 4) “Yeah, that.

That's the biggest thorn in this already thorny situation. And I do wonder if AfO was already planning to take this power specifically, or if he only took the opportunity when it showed up”- I don’t believe that AFO has the power to “predict” Quirks that’ll appear, but part of the reason for his wide-scale surveillance network is to mark and keep tabs on people whose powers catch his interest for future use. Think a similar idea to how Lex Luthor tagged people who’d been of help to Superman in the recent film.  5) “He could, but at the same time he can't. He's going through a bit of trouble with the guy trying to hijack his mind and steer him into the world trade center.”- The biggest issue with that, is that both minds have some common ground – namely, wanting to tear down the world around them. AFO has plans for what comes after, but that destructive impulse should align well enough with Tomura’s that their psyches can start melding more intimately. Plus, destroying Izuku, both as the holder of OFA and the only one who can thwart their destruction, is another aspect they both agree on, meaning targeting him is something that’ll come to pass sooner rather than later. 6) “Right, Bakugo died, except he didn't, Gran torino also died, except he also didn't, and there was no mention of Midnight, who actually died during this whole mess. Sure, she wasn't on the team fighting alongside you, but she also technically got hurt because of you, you know?”- Even the ones that didn’t die will carry the scars and maiming from encountering Tomura for the rest of their days, something that weighs heavily on Izuku. When your best-case scenario is surviving as a cripple in some form, that’s when you know you’ve got a fearsome villain as an opponent. 7) “I don't know if he can actually reach full power now that the process was interrupted and his metamorphosis stopped midway. Sure, he can recover from the previous fight, but I don't know if he can go back to incubate more.”- It might not reach the envisioned process of a “perfect” vessel, but evidently, whatever groundwork was laid by the doctor was more than enough to get Tomura’s body in the proper “state” so to speak. He just needs time and the energy supplied by his insatiable drive to destroy to finish the work.

That blow absolutely pulverised Torino’s spine, so even if he’s still alive, and needing to be hooked up to medical equipment for that, his chances of walking, let alone helping out in this battle as a hero, are practically nil. 12) “OH WAIT THAT SCARF IS GRAN TORINO'S CAPE?

You know, it would've been far more dramatic if he actually died, and Midoriya is carrying that as a memento to remind him of his mission, and to keep the memory of the old hero alive”- Izuku finally got his superhero cape, and thanks to Gran Torino’s size-shrinkage over the decades, he doesn’t even have to get it re-adjusted to fit! 13) “And that's the end of the flashback! And the chapter.

Why do I feel we won't be seeing Momdoriya for a long time? Why do I feel Gran torino will have recovered to help with the final fight? Why do I feel we won't have an explanation for the way that Best Jeanist holds the phone?”- Some mysteries are better left unsolved, I’m afraid.

1) “Last time Midoriya was in a zoom meeting with the rest of the Alliance of dead good guys, and today it seems we’re gonna find out what they are talking, on chapter 304: Izuku Midoriya and Toshinori Yagi

Uhhh, ominous~”-  They’re talking good news, bad news, and worrisome news. Good news: Izuku’s not gonna die naturally before he’s in his 20s Bad news: He doesn’t get to pass the buck of putting a stop to AFO’s plans to anybody else, unlike his predecessors – either he puts a stop to this generations-long battle, or he loses it once and for all Worrisome News: His spirit mentors are not quite squeaky-clean upstanding heroes, and are in fact the kind of guys who will be down for killing a dude if that saves the day, whether or not Izuku’s cool with that himself. 2) “Uhhhhhh… this, doesn’t seems good. I thought Midoriya was talking with the previous holders, why is the power so faint then?”-  It’s faint cause, technically, Yagi’s not meant to have any such power himself- even this tenuous connection to OFA and his own shade within it are things that shouldn’t be possible for a naturally-born Quirkless individual to have. Heck, I’m betting that Yagi can only “feel” what he does because he’s in direct contact with Izuku – unlike the past holders being always connected to him through his shade-self, he in turn can’t sense anything or get a grasp of the mental realm that Izuku shares with them, thus in turn preventing him from being in constant communication with Izuku as a result. 3) “Oh sure, ask about fucking Manual and Rock lock, but not your teacher Midnight, sure, fuck it I suppose.”-  To be fair to Izuku, there are all the heroes around him at Jaku hospital – he didn’t have time to process the implications of Machia showing up to help bail out Shigaraki from Izuku’s smackdown of him 4) “OH BOY HERE WE GO

WHY ARE THOSE TWO BLAIR WITCHING IN THE CORNER? WHAT DID THEY DO WRONG?”- My question is- which of them came up with the designs for these sick-ass chairs? Somebody’s got a taste for drama amongst these guys. 5) “I wonder what caused that, was it Midoriya almost dying so many times that the reaper decided to call it quits and lifted the veil between the two sides?”- That, and Horikochi deciding it’d be more convenient going into this final battle to not necessitate Izuku be beaten half unconscious every time he needs a strategy meeting with his ghost buddies. 6) “The singularity speed up, and this is a bit worrisome, because if it maintains the same rate of growth, well… I don’t think there’s enough space on Midoriya’s head for so many people”-  Well, at least part of that is AFO accidentally improving Izuu’s connection to OFA through trying to rip it out of his soul with blasting equipment, thus clearing the path for easier communication with them. From AFO himself as a baseline, it’s actually possible to store hundreds, if not thousands of Quirks without your own head going “pop” from all those consciousness in there. Befitting All Might’s statement way back in the starting chapters, AFO’s unintentionally made Izuku stronger and more powerful from his own attempts to remove his source of strength – now Izuku doesn’t need guesswork and working it out on the fly to get a handle on the prior user’s Quirks, the old guard themselves can directly advise him on how to utilise them. 7) “Do you even need a mouth here midoriya? This is the mindscape, they probably can read your thoughts.”- It did seem like Hellboy had issues figuring out Izuku’s actual words and such without a physical mouth to voice them – after all, he’s the one most pleased that Izuku’s finally developing his mental avatar enough to reach the point of full physical projection in this realm. (MHA ch 287) 8) “OH HOLY SHIT HE STOOD UP AND JUMPED IN

HE’S GONNA RIP AFO’S THROAT OUT WITH HIS OWN TEETH

AND HE DOESN’T EVEN HAVE TEETH IN THIS PLACE”-Turns out he was manifesting them underneath the smoke, apparently in pure need of something to attack AFO with. 9) “Oh wait I do remember that. So that was a quirk, not just Midoriya’s sense going into overdrive due to one for all?

Also I see you’re a jokester. Ha. ha. funny guy.”- I mean, technically, Danger Sense does work in tandem with all of OFA’s enhancements to increase Izuku’s physical senses to the point he can withstand the immense force he generates – zipping around at high speeds requires a corresponding level of special awareness to avoid injuring yourself, and Danger Sense being likewise enhanced by that means Izuku’s sense are now so fine-tuned he can’t get taken by surprise anymore. And of course this guy’s the jokester, he’s got the Spider-Sense quirk. 10) “Huh, considering he can sense danger, then I understand why he wouldn’t want to be around others. His quirk probably went ballistic due to one for all, it was probably hell.”- There’s also the fact that Shinomori was being hunted by AFO all the time when the Quirk was still somewhat “weak”, too limited in scope to be able to stand up to his power-head-on, and AFO was establishing his long-standing criminal empire all over the place – of course Danger Sense would be going nuts all the time, everybody around him was a potential source of danger that could lead AFO to him.

That said given Shinomori can also use Danger Sense to dodge Banjo’s attempts to be close and chummy with him, it might also be the case that Shinomori’s a wierdo who defines any sort of human contact as a personal danger, hence why his quirk warns him about well-meaning actions like that.  11) “…

Ooooookay now things are definitely getting fucked.

He was the fourth one, one for all was not even that strong, but he still had his lifespan cut by half?

Well, All Might is past his 40s, sure, but that means he can fall dead any second now. I wonder if he didn’t died earlier due to the fact he was quirkless, if that was the case then he might get to his 60-70s and Midoriya probably will get to his 50s before the quirk kills him”- Luckily, by pure chance Izuku and Yagi succeeded in dodging that bullet, but it has interesting bearings in some of the interquel movies that Horikoshi’s helped writ up, even if the canonicity of them is debated. In “Heroes Rising”, in order to overcome the movie’s main villain in the climatic clash, Izuku goes to the extreme of transferring OFA into Bakugou to empower him against the Villain, whilst he utilises the embers of it like All Might did to keep up. However, in the aftermath, All Might discovers that OFA didn’t stay within Bakugou’s body, and instead reversed the transference back to Izuku, seemingly of its own accord (aided by the fact Bakugou was subconsciously rejecting keeping the Quirk, not wanting to accept it in such a manner from Izuku once the need for it had passed). After all, there’s nothing that says a holder of the power can’t enable the reverse of OFA’s transference should the same conditions be applicable to the prior holder as well (Izuku completed the conditions by grasping Bakugou’s bloody hand with his own, mixing their blood from their injuries together inside them both). Whilst it’s unclear how sentient the vestiges were inside OFA, with this inside understanding that passing OFA into anyone but Izuku is a death sentence, it’s likely that the Vestages helped the reverse transference to avoid burning up Bakugou’s lifespan as well, hence why his Quirk didn’t mix/get assimilated with OFA as well. 12) “Well that much we already knew, All might showed that without preparation Midoriya would blow up, and even after that much training his body kept trying to eject his limbs whenever he used it

Considering that much of stress apparently wasn’t the case when All Might took it, then the requirements escalated after his time with the quirk, which means Midoriya might not find someone that can wield such power.But that still leaves the possibility he’ll give the quirk to AfO and blow him up with the sheer amount of power.”-Assuming Tomura’s new body even can be blown up anymore. AFO’s spent a lifetime prepping himself to handle power beyond what his old decrepit shell of a body could, and whilst it’s still up in the air, the possibility that Tomura is strong enough to house both Quirks together within him and wield the god-like power that results from both can’t be discounted. If the vestiges could have been reliably assured that AFO would die from over-consuming more power than he can withstand, they’d have forced a transference themselves directly to finish him off for good, but now that the Quirk’s strong enough to achieve that, AFO’s already moved into the next step of ensuring that the vessel he possesses can’t fall prey to such a clichéd villainous downfall.

13) “Which means that both All Might and Midoriya aren’t safe. Sure, they don’t have their own quirks, but they did wield multiple ones for years.”- The inverse actually. The fact they don’t have natural Quirks to begin with is precisely what gives them the “space” to utilise multiple abilities and strengths beyond what any natural Quirk-Holder in the present-day can.

1) “Oh, good, so besides the walking apocalypse, the goth trying to kill Endeavor and his family, and a killer who can be anyone anywhere, we still have an army of extremists and seven nigh-unstoppable killing machines. Good, I thought things would be sorta easy from now on.”- Technically, there’s two walking apocalypses out there: TomurAFO and the original AFO in his crippled body. He’s weaker than his “perfected” self, sure, but the power he wields still can’t be underestimated: I’m pretty sure that they’d need Izuku himself to handle the sheer power he can unleash, which is enough to level a city by himself. Tomura, in comparison, could potentially wipe out entire chunks of the country, so it’s purely a matter of scale in ranking their threat level 2) “jesus fuycking christ

truly the fall of society while the rest of the world watches. things are gonna turn real ugly”-  The damage done truly underscores how isolated the heroes of Japan are, in addition to how overwhelming the crisis is for those struggling to provide some semblance of stability. 3) “And again: that was intentional, both by AfO as well as the liberation front. The more death and destruction, the more people will be willing to put up with anything to see the end of it, which means that society is yours to grab if you have the means, and AfO and Redestro most certainly do.”- And yet, for all that it’s bad, the thing I was always remembering during these chapters was, “at least it isn’t as bad as it could have been”. Like, yeah, this is absolutely anarchy on the streets and everything’s getting worse by the day but, the heroes’ efforts weren’t in vain. They weakened Tomura, stopped and contained not only Machia, but also Re-Destro and most of the PLF’s members, on top of killing the High-Ends and leaving TomuAFO with only some of the League’s core members to head up his villain brigade, which is also part of the reason he turned to destroying the prisons in order to maintain the upper hand, in spite of their clear victories against the Villains. Had everything proceeded according to design, the heroes would have had no chance at turning the situation around, but even with total societal breakdown occurring all around them, the sacrifices and lives spent in evening the odds (somewhat) were not in vain. 4) “OH? OKAY THEN? SO THERE’S A CHANCE OF FOREIGN HEROES SHOWING UP TO HELP, I SEE

YOU KNOW WHO WOULD BE QUITE THE HELP NOW? CAPTAIN CELEBRITY AND THE SKYCRAWLER, BUT YOU KNOW, FUCK THAT I SUPPOSE, IT’S NOT LIKE EITHER OF THEM HAVE ANY ATTACHMENT TO JAPAN OR SOMETHING.(I’m ready to eat my hat if they actually show up, rest assured)”- I honestly imagined Koichi getting stuck with the opposite problem of current real-world America during this: being an immigrant unable to quickly leave America.

5) “Hawks, is there still doubts about it? I mean, they all literally were talking about and confirming the situation a few minutes before. Sure, things are different, Endeavor wants to make up for what he has done, but I don’t think there’s much space for the benefit of doubt in relation to the past.”- Well, Dabi is still an admitted Villain with a clear agenda with his revelations against the Todoroki, so there was always some room for doubting what he said, simply because it was him saying it and not Endeavour. But with Endeavour and the others confirming it – not to mention clarifying details that Dabi didn’t want to talk about or simply didn’t understand due to his warped worldview, Hawks feels better about putting his full support behind Endeavour once again.

6) “Oh wait, so Jeanist is the current number three? Well, considering everyone else died or run away, I suppose he would climb the ranks.”-  The odds are, Izuku is going to become the World’s Greatest Hero by the end of this, simply because he’ll be the onlyhero left standing.

7) “I mean, he already had stepped away from the family when he realized the depth of his fuck up before, so I don’t think he had any hope of coming back Natsuo. Also he’s probably gonna die in the end anyway, so.”- I read Natuso’s reaction as “I’m willing to put aside my grudge with you and not be antagonistic anymore, but only until the point we’ve resolved this issue with Toya, then it’s back to ghosting you from my life, ok?” And even then, Enji’s somewhat grateful he gets that kind of support from his estranged kid at all.

8) “I already imagine that you guys will need to soften things up with the public, and that will probably mean having to lie about the past. I hate it, but considering the chaos outside, I can see why this would be necessary, throwing more fuel into the ever-expanding inferno going on would only make things worse”- On the other hand, lying, or more accurately, not talking about the family issues in public, is partly why Toya revealing the truth then was such a devastating blow, propping Endear upon a pedestal that only made it easier for him to topple it over by undermining the foundations of that support in the public’s eyes. Therefore, it may be better, if risky, to just bite the bullet and swallow the poison pill, no matter how bad or difficult it’s be to do so in this current climate of unease.

9) “You’re barking up the wrong tree there Hawks, you should ask Midoriya or All Might about it, Endeavor is as blind as you are on that matter.”- True, but he is, ironically, the first person to find out about its existence from somebody other than All Might, which makes him the one people turn too for answers when both Midoria and Yagi are otherwise distracted.

10) “Oh thank you manga, so he did say that, but it was because Midoriya said it. Geez for a moment there I was trying to recall if they had told endeavor about One for All and the previous holders.”- And now the biggest change to the status quo. Up till this point, Izuku’s been able to trained and prepare himself in relative obscurity as an up-and-coming hero student, but with AFO’s plans in motion and society in a breakdown around him, that moment has passed. Now, the moment for people to recognise Izuku as the next Superman of their world is fast approaching…

11) “His body is completely fucked up, have you seen the amount of broken bones he ended up with? He managed to broke his tongue, how will they put a cast on his tongue?”- His body is broken, and frankly, for such a caring and empathetic young boy, to see such damage being dealt to those he cares about, knowing on some level that it was because of him, his spirit’s probably not much better off.

12) “I fucking forgot that was Bakugo’s hero name oh my fucking GOD why”-Your brain attempted to protect you from the mental damage. Alas, it only left you open for a fresh round of pain when it was brought up again. That said, it’s a nice sign of Jeanist’s sincere respect for Bakugou and his character development that he sincerely uses the name, treating him as an actual hero and peer without any mockery of his naming sense. 13) “OH HOLY SHIT

THEY ARE SPEAKING ALRIGHT, BUT THE LIVING ALL MIGHT IS NOT INCLUDED ON THAT, THAT’S BETWEEN MIDORIYA AND THE SPECTRAL ALL MIGHT SO THAT MEANS NEXT CHAPTER THERE’S GONNA BE SOME FUCKING REVEAL THAT’S FOR SURE”- Time to see more of/about the past wielders, now Izuku’s connection has been strengthened by his training and recent strenuous efforts…

1) “Very based of whoever desecrated the memorial of All Might after he pretty much gave his entire life until the last moment to keep people safe and almost went down doing so. Incredibly based of ya, your mom must be proud.”-This statue was seen just before the PLF raid commenced, being seen admiringly by a young boy in passing, full of hope and inspired by what it represented…so its current appearance now serves as a sombre bookmark to the fallout of the same event, people openly vandalising it to project their own feelings of hopelessness out into the world. 2) “WHAT THE FUCK I FUCKING KNEW STAIN WOULD SHOW UP

OH MY GOD MAN, I WONDER HOW HE’S HANDLING THIS SHIT. IN A WAY, IT IS WHAT HE WANTED, BUT IN THE OTHER, HE ONLY DID SO TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE AND IMPROVE SOCIETY.

IS STAIN GONNA SWITCH SIDES AND BECOME A FULL-FLEDGED VIGILANTE NOW TO KEEP CIVILIANS SAFE? 

EAT YOUR FUCKING HEART OUT KOICHI, HE DIDN’T RUN OUT OF THE COUNTRY”- Well, I can’t actually blame Koichi on that one, When he left, there was still a working hero society to take care of things, and if he tried to come back now, something like the plane falling out of the sky might happen en-route – At least, I’m betting AFO’s thought up something to stop international aid being sent. If he was still in the country, I’ve no doubt this’d be his time to shine, but sadly, the ocean that once prevented AFO from easily pursuing All Might to American now blocks Koichi’s return home, unless he can get permission for an overseas flight back to an active warzone. 3) “Exactly who I expected but Doctor Toad there was a surprise not gonna lie.

WAIT WE DID HAD A YOSHI DOCTOR A WHILE AGO DIDN’T WE? TWO CHAPTERS AGO IN FACT”- Recall that, which doing the UA entrance exam, Present Mic used a Mario game as a sort of visual aid for the challenges the students would be facing. Can’t help but wonder how this hospital staff feel about seeing their likenesses appearing in those. 4) “Did he? Because looking out the window, I think he’s still neck-deep into some serious shit. He might suffer a serious case of beaten-to-death-by-a-mob-itis pretty soon.”- Like, Endeavour can defend himself with his Quirk, but…that wouldn’t exactly help the situation. As said before, the “patients” in the hospital are basically under siege from AFO’s tactics right now, even without any of his actual minions being in the crowd outside. 5) “WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS HOSPITAL FIRST THEY PUT BAKUGO INTO A HUGE-ASS ROOM AND NOW THE SAME FOR ENDEAVOR. I KNOW HE’S THE TOP HERO BUT STILL I THOUGHT WE WERE IN A BIT OF CRISIS HERE WITH TOO MANY PATIENTS??”-  I dunno, could be that they don’t want to risk him being in the same room with other patients, due to the aforementioned public critique and animosity directed at him, and Endeavour being in a pretty dark place mentally where being exposed to that would be bad all-round. 6) “Not for long I’m afraid. The people outside don’t have anywhere else to go and their torches and pitchforks are hungry for flesh”- And Endeavour doesn’t exactly have a “safe” haven either he can hole up, because Dabi’d just burn it down to flush him out…not that that’d be the right call to make either, since his son’s doing his best to call him out for a public duel to the death however he can. 7) “…you know that scene was a bit terrifying when it happened, but the way you made his eyes here Horikoshi, it just makes him seem goofy.”- He looks drunk on his own euphoria and success after holding back for so long…and like any hedonist, now he’s indulged himself, he aims to continue no matter the consequences until that insatiable desire for more within him utterly consumes him. In a way, the picture’s still terrifying for me, because Dabi’s eyes just show his unwavering commitment to what he wants, regardless of who he has to hurt to get it, “friend”, family, or foe. 8) “Not really, he was kinda hoping you would die there. 

Also I know Endeavor is quite bulky but he looks like a fucking jojo character here”- No actually. Dabi was Ok with dying there and then, but only if he could guarantee that first Shoto, the Endeavour died in his fires with him too. In a sense, he’s already written his little brother off as a guaranteed victory he can flaunt in their father’s face when he shows up to finish the job, and until then, he has no intention of stopping the torment on anybody.

9) “Yeah, the truth is out there, they all know the monster you are and the evil you’ve done Endeavor, now tell me: are you going to run away in shame, or are you gonna fight to fix what you’ve done?”-  On the other hand, how exactly do you “fix” a threat like Dabi? He’s totally mentally gone, and attempting to subdue him in a fight’s a major problem, because hecontrols his fires, nobody else, and he’s finally using them at temperatures that can self-damage him in a battle, per his ultimate goal. If Endeavour fights him, he’ll burn away to nothing, laughing in his face all the while, and even if Endeavour lives as a charcoaled husk after that, Dabi would still have “won” by denying him to chance to save his son with his own suicide.

10) “Most definitely what he was, there’s no denying there. Still, I think that endeavor got humbled a lot since, and if god wills it he’ll continue to get his shit kicked in and be humbled. Redemption is not a finish line, it’s a horizon you’re never gonna reach, and yet you continue to walk towards.”- Which is the major difference between Dabi and the rest of the family. He doesn’t want his father redeemed, he wants him condemned, and is doing everything he can to deny that chance at atonement, even if it means putting his own well-being at risk. Dabi’s goal with his family is simply to destroy, because he doesn’t like the way things are, rather than fixing them in a long-term manner like the ret are trying. In a sense, it’s a motivation that’s not so different to Tomura’s, and underlines the selfishness inherrent in both their ambitions…which, is also fine by them. After all, they’re the Bad Guys, why would they care about doing the “right” thing?

11) “Yeah, Endeavor is dead, but what he made is still out there, and needs to be stopped. Once again I ask you: are you going to run away, or are you going to fight to fix it?”- A question his wife would very much like to have answered as well.

(MHA ch 291) 1) “Shigaraki please, you’re missing the big reveal, they are gonna need to explain it to you after you wake up and you’re not gonna believe it!”- Well, he’s awake but….it’s not Tomura in the driver’s seat anymore. There may not even be any “Tomura” left inside by the end of this.

2) “WAIT, ARE YOU IMPLYING THAT HE WILL BE ABLE TO DO THAT LATER, BECAUSE YOU'RE GONNA LET HIM GO, OR THAT THIS WAS SOMETHING BEYOND HIS REACH BECAUSE YOU'RE IN CHARGE OF THE MEAT VESSEL NOW?”- He’s being disingenuous. For all that he’s referred to Tomura as his own man and his “successor”, in actuality, he’s never seen him as somebody separate from himself – rather, merely an incubating vision of the person he’s going to become for the sake of AFO’s ambitions, a new vessel and body that can outlive his old one with greater strength than he can achieve alone, and whose identity and selse of self will become fertiliser to enable AFo to “evolve” into a new vision of the Demon Lord he used to be. For all that Tomura is serving as a hate battery that powers their mental fusion, eventually, whatever comprises his Id and Ego will be subsumed by AFO’s, leaving only the ever-present emotion of hatred powering this new self.

These are not scenes of a master speaking to a pupil, it’s a twisted vision of a “future” AFO speaking to his “younger” self, preparing him to properly fit his mental framework like a human suit. Whenever he says “Tomura” will be doing something, he really means “I will be doing something” once he’s gotten a handle on using Tomura’s rage properly along with this new enhanced body. It’s a sign of AFO’s sheer narcissism that he earnestly cannot perceive people are beings in their own rights, merely tools he can utilise for his own needs. Even outwith Tomura, this shows in how he speaks to his Brother’s vestige.

He speaks of “making him his” whilst looking right at him, but what he really means is taking OFA into his own Quirk. Because of his psychopathic perception of people, he earnestly can’t see the difference between his brother as a living being and his power, and the same outlook applies to Tomura as well. “Tomura” is not a person to AFO, he’s a source of emotional strength created as a weapon to beat his brother’s power into submission with, and by the same token, the whole reason this is possible is that there is no difference between AFO as a person and his Quirk. He is his power, and thus, taking it within Tomura enabled him to start “eating” his mind and identity whilst preserving his heart underneath to empower himself into a god-like being.

FUCK YOU AND THAT BOMBER CELL BULLSHIT YOU HAD BEFORE”- And despite what pretentions he layers on it, this showcases AFO’s underlying cowardice and refusal to “fight fair”. Tomura started the fight at a disadvantage due to being ambushed early, and was willing to keep fighting even as his parts were coming off, but when AFO takes command, he checks out the state of Tomura’s injuries that he was willing to ignore, verifies that the heroes are nearly beaten, but still capable of fighting back, and decides it’s more pragmatic to simply high-tail it out of there and wait until his true overwhelming might is ready, so they have no slim chance to take him down whatsoever. 

Does it mean abandoning everybody who loyally followed Tomura in a warzone? Yep, but loyalty, despite hard-coding it into the Nomus, is not something AFO has ever really possessed. Even Machia isn’t spared from this, simply because AFO judges it too risky to continue a fight where there’s odds of a fair victory for both sides, instead wanting to stack the deck as much as he can until his own, singular victory is assured. It’s despicable, and yet, you have to admit it is arguably the best choice for him to take if merely looking at the logical outcome of this conflict rather than the emotional one everybody’s invested in my now.

5) “Yeah but I think that he`ll need to go a bit higher than that against Shigaraki if he wishes to have a shot. Although they won`t kill him here, otherwise it would be some very awkward next 120 chapters, but they need to at least push him back, and that`s definitely gonna be tricky.”- Push him back, or…beat him up enough that he can’t resist the mental attacks of his master, who’s perfectly happy to leave before the heroes could eke out a slim victory. and there’s no escaping it”- Actually, as it turns out, AFO doesn’t have the decency to stick to a fight if he’s not completely certain of his victory in the end, unlike Tomura. If he thinks it’ll be more devastating for the heroes to cut and run, despite all the losses his side has incurred, he’ll do that without a second thought, because his eye is on the long-term goal, not this short-term victory everybody’s fighting so hard for, on both sides of the conflict. 7) “YES BUT WE HAVE MORE PRESSING MATTERS RIGHT NOW PEOPLE AFO JUST CAME BACK

NOW IT'S ALL FOR TWO”- Even when Luke faced down both Emperor Palpetine and Darth Vader, he never had to face them down fighting in synch together. Izuku’s odds are not looking good, especially because AFO’s made it clear here that OFA is his priority, and All Might’s victory won’t get repeated again, no matter how much cheating he has to pull off.

8) “DON'T TALK LIKE THAT ABOUT YOUR SON YOU PIECE OF SHIT”- In fitting with his “can only see people as powers” viewpoint, Izuku’s inherently Quirkless nature means he registers as less than worthless to AFO, merely serving as the receptacle for his brother’s power until he’s ready to brutally rip it out of him

9) “MIDORIYA, WHATEVER YOU HAVE TO SAY, SAY IT NOW BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. DECLARE THAT YOU WILL DEFEAT HIM AND SAVE SHIGARAKI, PLANT THAT SEED OF FEAR IN HIS DARK HEART, LET HIM NOW THERE WON'T BE REST WHILE YOU STILL BREATHS”- At this point, it’s unclear if Tomura’s ears could even pick up on Izuku’s words and relay them to the part of him that’s still “him” inside there. But then again, Izuku’s speaking from his heart, and Tomura’s heart is something that AFO can’t directly utilise himself, not unlike an actual Heartless, so maybe, in some metaphysical way, Izuku doesn’t need to speak for Tomura to get his message here.

EVIL WON TODAY, BUT IT SHALL NOT WIN THIS WAR.”- Actually, the only true winner of this war was the Evil AFO. Both the heroes and Villains on either side sacrificed so much to achieve success for their side, with severe, irreplaceable losses being taken by both, yet with this last action of just swooping in to Hijack Tomura before a conclusion can be reached, AFO manages to render all efforts made utterly pointless. The PLF have lost their leadership, their command structure and the soul of the young tyrant they swore loyalty to, the League have fractured and irreversibly lost some members, and what remains is deeply broken over it and the divide in their ideologies and aims made apparent by Dabi, and the heroes failed to stop the unstoppable juggernaut that was Tomura from escaping to become stronger, after both he and Machia caused disasters on a national level with untold casualties from innocent civilians. Everyone who put their maximum effort into scoring a meaningful outcome in this fight had it rendered pointless by AFO’s selfish choice to flee and prioritise himself, and all he had to do was show up and play by his own rules rather than engage in a “fair” confrontation.

But we’ll have time to complain more while he bleeds to death in the battlefield, because not it’s time to get started with Chapter 294: Tenacious.”- So, does mis-typing the chapter number make you in the wrong, or?.... 2) “Back to the world of the living Link- I mean, Midoriya? You were out for quite sometime, you even missed a celebrity reveal.”- Honestly, Midoria needs his own time in the healing tank after this. Boy’s reduced himself to a torso moving with the aid of semi-flight and tentacles extruded from his mouth, and he still eats up another big hit before the fighting’s done. 3) “Yeah that was the ghostly icepick of god trying to scramble your brain so you make a stupid decision, but you’re refusing to do so.”- And this new “Danger Sense” seems to work on much the same nebulous rules as Spidy’s, getting triggered at the mere impending danger from Tomura getting awakened, because of how massive the threat he represents to Izuku is.

Izuku has the legit OG Spider Sense Software installed in him, and accordingly, now he’s starting to use it, will now have to deal with the same issues that run Superman ragged – being able to sense danger all around him happening to others and not being able to be there for everyone. 5) “Are you sure it’s a quirk Midoriya, it might just be a normal untreated anxiety attack”- Izuku’s been handling anxiety attacks since he was in kindergarden, they’re old-school to him. Having an unexpected warning klaxon go off inside your skull every time somebody’s aiming for you, that’s defiantly a new experience for him. 6) “DAMMIT COMPRESS CAN YOU CHILL THE FUCK OUT WE ALREADY LOST YOUR ASS, WE DON’T WANT TO LOSE MORE BITS OF YOU

Also I definitely don’t think you have a shot against Mirio, but give your best, any second matters.”- Yeah, Compress’ plan basically amounted to giving his allies some breathing room to act freely however he could, even going to the extreme of self-mutilation to achieve that. It makes it darkly ironic that he refers to it as an “escape artist performance” when he himself never planned to escape, only to let his friends find a way out. In theory, it was a stupid, reckless move that shouldn’t have worked…but that’s the same principle behind some of Izuku’s own heroic strategies, trusting in his allies to help save the day whilst only having a half-formed idea and making it up as he goes along. Once again, the villains becoming the protagonists for a moment enables them to make use of the same reality-bending logic that allows their success against the odds…although for Spinner, this still isn’t really a win for their side either… 7) “OH MY FUCKING GOD HE IS AWARE OF IT

BUT THANK GOD HE COULDN’T USE THEM, THAT POWER WOULD HAVE SHOOK THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE EARTH”- I’ma be real with you. I don’t know what Caleb was smoking when he translated it this way, only that he’d been watching a lot of Monty Python. 

It’s even worded confusingly in the original Japanese to boot, so I can’t really blame him for this. Best guess I’ve got is that Compress was desperate enough to try and entangle himself in Miro and hopefully sit on him until the others had got away?? 8) “Yes, that’s exactly the case, if he wakes up that is. Which he will, any moment now. But it remains to be seen if it will be Shigaraki or All for One the one that will wake up.”- Well now, that’s certainly an interesting philosophical question to ask. When two become one, are they both, or neither?

Hold on, let me check the last chapter”- Compress seriously came in clutch here for his side, even if he sacrificed so much to pull off that narrow escape. Even with his Quirk weakened, it was his understanding and faith in his teammates that enabled him to pull off a dark-horse victory upset at the eleventh hour, whereas Dabi very clearly had no plans for leaving here until Endeavour passed out, showing how he’d basically lead the league into a charge that would have resulted in their capture or worse at the heroes’ hands without care for the consequences, because hey, not like that’d matter to him, right? 10) ““most devoted follower” suuuure let’s leave it at that, hehe…”- Definitely another way of saying “Best/ Only true friend who understands me like no-one else”. Spinner’s like an underpowered Bakugou to Tomura’s Izuku. 11) “OH SPINNER GOT THE HAND

HE BROUGHT IT HERE, AND THAT’S WHAT IS GONNA WAKE UP SHIGARAKI

WHICH MEANS THAT HE WILL DEFINITELY OVERPOWER AFO ATTEMPTS TO TAKE OVER THE BODY”-  No, sadly. Spinner knew it’d rouse him because of his personal insight into Tomura’s psyche (plus having shit-all options besides) but you can’t fight Fire with Fire, nor smother Hatred with More Hatred. AFO is feeding off of Tomura’s negative emotions like a Quirk-based heartless, so the more he gives into that rage, however unexpectedly it may come upon him, the stronger the bond/unwitting fusion between them becomes. It’s a twisted reflection of izuku’s own interlink with OFA, but whereas they can partially control/move Izuku’s body at times when he himself willed it whilst under extreme emotions (like under Shinso’s brainwashing), Tomura’s omnipresent hatred, bred into him like a seed from childhood, just allows AFO a direct link to puppeteer Tomura’s body under his own will entirely. And the more Tomura hates this fact, the stronger his control becomes too. The downward spiral of Tomura’s reign as the leading villain has started, and there’s nothing he can do to stop it – after all, AFO never taught him how to feel anything else that could potential fight off this hatred link, so he can’t control his own heart from cementing this fusion with him in a subservient role to his “master” – just like it was planned all along. 12) “HE IS BACK

FUCKING FUCKWHY DID YOU DO THAT SPINNER, YOU MESSED THINGS UP FOR HIM”- Not his fault. After all, this is the first time Spinner’s seen Tomura since he went into the test-tube months ago. If anything, the fact he understood his best buddy well enough to know that tidbit about the hands rousing his instinctive emotional response is a sign of how well Spinner was in synch with Tomura – it was months ago that he told them that, yet on seeing the burned hand of Nana, Spinner instantly recalls it as a way out of their predicament. And for all that time, the development of AFO’s plan to hijack Tomura internally at the final hour is something that Spinner, the league and all their followers are completely in the dark on – not to mention that the whole “vestige realm” deal is something seemingly unique to OFA and AFO’s Quirks due to their type of powers, so Spinner has no reason to believe that something like demonic possession straight out of a horror movie is possible until this moment.

1) “Oh yeah, Koichi got a lot of broken bones and lost a lot of blood less than two minutes ago. Good thing that was not easily solved and completely brushed aside, phew, it would be a problem if we had lasting damage to raise the stakes or something. Anyway, how’s your coma going Pop?”- Yet symbolic/meaningful, yet minor damage like Nomura’s scar-creating slash manages to stick around. Gotta love it. 2) “Koichi is mastering the art of of using so much power to blow up his target that whatever is behind said target remains completely intact, especially if it’s made out of glass.

The boy is truly becoming too powerful”- We could chalk it up to precise damage control, only inputting as much force as would be needed to blow through a target and lose all inertia when coming out the other side, but yes, Izuku’s own building-destroying punches always carried some collateral effects, which is why he needed to beat Overhaul up in the sky to go all out. 3) “yeah sure, now all his power comes from the power of friendship”- Friendship, and believing in himself!...but sadly, “believing in himself” also means he believes even more strongly in his “no-killing” rule. 4) “Shame that AfO has ignored the most likely scenario that explains this situation: The author is pulling it out of his ass as needed. It’s in a need-to-pull basis.”- Koichi has evolved to the ultimate tier of power: becoming the author’s pet character, and reaping the benefits. 5) “Well good thing he’s not literally burning himself away by kicking his, erm, quirk, into overdrive. KOICHI DID YOU FORGOT HE’S MADE OUT OF PLASMA? DO YOU KNOW HOW HOT THAT STUFF IS?!”-I mean, not much of an issue when Koichi’s punches have an automatic “keep-away” function built into them now. Guy’s a walking, hitting force field. 8) “You know Koichi, you should at least try aiming for his teeth, because apparently he can made solid teeth out of plasma.”- Nomura’s attempts to warp the fabric of reality in his favour to win are commendable, but doomed. 9) “OH MY FUCKING GOD ANOTHER FLASHBACK GOD PLEASE SAVE ME FROM THIS”- I can’t tell if this final battle was harder on Koichi, or you. This would’ve been a terrific opportunity to show Tenko there playing hero with them, although he most certainly didn’t live anywhere near Naruhata.

7) “Yeah Pop, fight on, since you can only do so when you’re in the fridge apparently.”- And even that amounts to her giving moral support to both a dying Koichi and Nomura as they tether on the brink of passing on. 8) “NO KOICHI DON’T SNAP YOUR FINGERS, YOU DON’T KNOW WHICH HALF OF THE UNIVERSE YOU CAN END UP ERASING”- Judging by your drunken binge following this, I bet you wished it was the half of the universe that conspired to allow this Bizarre ghost plotline to be birthed from Furuhashi’s mind. 9) “Koichi you fool, the power was inside you all along~And here comes the newspaper again, but now you can simply go “no <3” and brush it off”- Koichi legit could have overpowered Nomura’s best punch attempt here with his own arm cannon. Poor guy never really had a chance against the sheer force of the writer’s pen giving strength to Koichi’s blows/as much bullshit power-ups as he required.

DID YOU FUCKING FORGOT WHAT GHOSTKLEDUSTER TOLD YOU?”- Yeah, but he still doesn’t want to actually fire it. Perhaps one of the biggest hang-ups about liking Koichi’s role as the protagonist is his absolute adherence to never physically assaulting anybody- even here, he just resorts to tearing apart the plasma body to weaken Nomura, rather than strike the obvious weak spot in the head.

11) “PISS OFF KNUCKLES, GO TO THE OTHER SIDE ALREADY GOOD LORD YOU HAVEN’T SHOWED UP FOR AN ETERNITY AND NOW YOU REFUSE TO LEAVE”- And even when he leaves, Furuhashi just drags him right back before the curtain falls.

12) “Debatable, we still aren’t sure he has one”- If he did have one, it swiftly burned apart in his own self-cremation here. Though the lack of change to his usual demeanour when interacting with Koichi one final time indicates he never really put those brain cells to much work even when he had them.

13) “For pete’s sake, first McBee has a tulpa that turns out to be fucking AfO, now Ghost knuckles refuses to fuck off, can someone call in an exorcist already?”- At the rate we were going, I was expecting Koichi to Ghostbusters somebody by the end in some kind of spiritual final battle with Nomura – it’s not like the craziest ideas imaginable wouldn’t have fitting into this off-the-rails situation by the end.

14) “Why do I feel that any moment now Pop’s ghost is gonna show up to tell him that murder is okay in this particular situation”- You tried to joke about it, but Furuhashi was talking all suggestions as good ones the day this chapter came out.

15) “Koichi, with part of “it’s kill or be killed” you didn’t understood? Do you want to end up like knuckles there?”- I mean, he is sorta half-dead at this point – or at least in-tune enough with the spirit world to speak with actual ghosts. That said, at least the continuation of his character arc ended better than Knuckles’ did.

16) “Yes. Because guns are for pussies, real heroes kill with their hands. That’s the logic we want you to follow Koichi. Kicks are also in, as long it’s not below the waist.”- For Evidence, look no further than what All Might did to AFO with his meaty fists of supreme justice. @thelreads
