Chapter Ten - The Road to Hell (teaser)
Oh what great fun I intend to have, mused InuKimi as she stepped down onto the tarmac and allowed her golden eyes to sweep over the busy airport of Tokyo International. It had been quite some time since she had last graced this great city with her presence. She had seen no purpose in returning once her mating had been dissolved, but now her return had come with purpose, and she had every intention of insuring that her purpose would be felt by those she had come to see.
But first, she needed to make sure Kikyo was settled quite nicely within the penthouse she had purchased all those many decades ago. It had been a property that she had bought prior to her eldest child even contemplating mating and settling down. She had not even seen the place preferring to buy the place sight unseen. She had planned on giving it to Sesshomaru upon the day of his mating, but she held back. She wanted the property to be used as a sanctuary for either herself or her daughter-in-law without fear of being found out, but the chance had never been given.
A dark smile tugged on the corners of her mouth as Kikyo stepped down onto the tarmac beside her.
“I fear you have something up your sleeves, Kimi-san,” Kikyo observed uncertain whether to be fearful or sympathetic to the one who was about to receive a visit from the demoness. The eldest daughter of the Higurashi family was no fool to believe that Kimi would join her on the ride to the penthouse. No, she knew that Kimi had other plans…had seen it in the way the woman had kept herself busy on the flight to Tokyo. She had heard snippets of conversation floating in her direction when Kimi either thought she had been asleep or did not care that Kikyo knew of her plans.
The demoness turned her head and that dark smile only widened offering Kikyo a glimpse of sharp teeth. “You are starting to know me quite as well as Kagome,” Kimi remarked watching two limos approach them, “but you are correct – you will be going to the penthouse without me. I have some business to take care of, but once I am finished you and I will have a delightful dinner together and we will discuss the upcoming meeting with the Council.”
Kikyo bowed her head to the elder demoness. “Of course,” she answered watching as the attendants pack the suitcases into the back of one of the limos, “I will look forward to the dinner conversation.” There was a small pause before she continued, “I will use the time in seeing how my sister and the others are doing in Scotland.”
Kimi nodded her head. “Be careful with any conversation you have with them,” Kimi warned. “The penthouse I am sending you to – no one knows I own it. Any conversation you have may be monitored especially if anyone becomes aware that I have returned to Tokyo, and they may mistake you for your sister.”
“I will see to it that my conversation with them is short and to the point,” Kikyo promised with a small smile. She made her way to the limo and turned once more to the demoness. “I will see you shortly then.”
Kimi watched as Kikyo ducked into the back of the limo and the door close. Once the limo pulled away, Kimi’s golden eyes drew to the limo that awaited her. As the door opened, she was momentarily surprised to find Jaken sitting there waiting for her.
“Jaken,” she acknowledged with a tilt of her head, “I was not expecting you.”
The little toad wrenched his hands in worry. He knew that his arrival to greet InuKimi would probably not go unnoticed and certainly there would be someone here in the airport, that if they saw him talking to Sesshomaru’s mother, they would certainly alert not only his master but Toga as well. It was not something Jaken wanted to dwell upon, but it was something that unsettled itself within his small mind.
“I had not planned to greet you upon your return to Tokyo, Kimi-sama,” Jaken stated softly watching the demoness slide into place beside him and the door close once she had settled in her seat, “but I had a feeling that you have plans to visit someone before you even let Sesshomaru-sama and Toga-sama know of your arrival.”
Kimi was surprised, if anything, to have Jaken’s company. Long ago, the small toad had once been in her service. That had been until her son had done something so spectacular in the eyes of the small kappa that it earned his eternal devotion. It had been, for the most part, cute in Kimi’s eyes but then, she saw potential of an ally in her son’s ranks. She knew that, although devoted to her son, Jaken still had loyalty to her first and foremost. It had been from him that she had learned that Sesshomaru had finally found himself a mate.
“Does my son know you are gone?” Kimi inquired curiously.
The old kappa shook his head. “He has not been home for quite some time. I suspect he is with his sire.”
Again, I am not sure when this chapter will be out. I am currently working on it. This particular piece was written because I have an idea (with the next chapter) where it is going and know it is not going to be pretty for Sango. >>
I am hoping to have this chapter out before I return to work on Wednesday. I am going to try but again I am not promising anything.
By the way, I already have the title ready for Chapter Eleven. Look for that to be announced once this chapter has been released.
