JoJo's Bizarre Adventure OC: Char Goodman
{Locality: Canada, around 2020 or so, not involved in any existing Part. Same locality as April Fools and Minerva Novoselic.
Charlene Goodman, known primarily as Char; age 16, she/her, greygender with no particular attachment to gender. Canadian-born and half-Khmer but barely acknowledges it, and still lives in Canada. Speaks English and French Canadian. She has strange spots by her left jaw, seemingly partially exposing just a little bit of the inside of her mouth. Perhaps some kind of odd scars. She is an atheist, her favourite food is prosciutto crudo, and her favourite colour is cinnamon.
Char is known to be solitary and largely uncompassionate towards others, noted to have a significant lack of empathy. She is generally perceived as 'off-putting' by her peers, having little interest in socialisation, a blatant, borderline misanthropic distaste for humanity in general, and a strange fascination with decay and death. She tends to spend most of her time alone, reading and hiking. Her health is described as "poor", to which Payton has commented, "I wonder if that has anything to do with the touching-dead-bodies thing."
She can get along just fine with people if they manage to befriend her, but her lack of empathy is presumably a chronic condition. She can fake it and show compassion, but she rarely goes out of her way to help others, preferring to watch things occur from a distance.
Good Charlotte
Good Charlotte is the Stand of Char Goodman. It takes the form of a large hardback book with gold gilding, itself titled Good Charlotte. It often appears to have something—it seems to be black mould—growing on it near the pages. Though the logistics are not fully specified, it can be observed that the Stand has the ability to manipulate decay and rot. It locks on to a target (presumably of Char's choice), and as the pages are flipped through, the target begins to develop decay, though the exact "symptoms" may vary depending on the conditions and what the target is. Conversely, by flipping backwards through the book, decay can be reversed. As Char is often seen reading the pages when using her Stand, it can be assumed that they do contain information, potentially regarding the decay it is causing; however, Char never allows anyone else to read it. It can be seen by non-Stand Users.
Though averagely hygienic, she lacks aversion to typically repulsive things such as mould, maggots, and rot in general, and is more likely to try to touch these things than the average sensible person. She can often be found using her Stand to accelerate decay and observe the results. She insists that anytime she does this, she takes no interest in causing potential damage to any living thing, preferring to approach it clinically. She has said she would like to be a thanatologist or medical examiner when she gets out of school, though she'd settle for coroner or undertaker. She watches crime shows, but near-exclusively for the forensic aspects of them, as she hates 'drama' and cops.
Char lacks general physical strength, claiming to have terribly fragile bones and 'atrophied' muscles. She has poor reflexes, which she attributes to her supposed 'atrophied muscles'. However, it seems to be more a result of a delay in reaction time. She shows poor hand-eye coordination and alleges that this is why she doesn't like video games much, but she makes up for it in leg reflex and agility.
Though mentally resilient, she lacks emotional attachment, which can, at times, be a weakness. She is easily fixated, easily redirected, and easily overwhelmed by excessive interaction. She makes up for her general weakness in her general intellect and cleverness. Though she doesn't much like interacting with others, she can work together with them.
She has poor endurance due to weak muscle mass and lack of acclimation to taking damage and isn't very fast in most regards due to her poor reflexes. She is decent at sprinting short distances but has also been noted to have poor stamina.
She has average self-control... until it comes to satiating curiosity.
Char is known for her strange behaviour and demeanour by most of her peers, so they often avoid her. You'll get some kids telling you, 'She gives me serial killer vibes!' or that she's 'like some mad scientist,' and you'll get other kids saying, 'She doesn't really give the impression that she'd want to be friends with anyone.' You won't find anyone in or out of her school claiming to be her friend.
Despite her demeanour and her 'serial killer vibes' that seem to concern her classmates, Char has a completely clean criminal and academic record. She is exceptionally intelligent and has high marks in all subjects (though her performance in physical education classes is the bare minimum) and is described as a 'bright young woman' which she resents. Her 'antisocial behaviour' has been noted as a point of concern by her teachers, but she has never provably done anything against school rules or common decency, so it remains no more than a mere concern. She does not talk about her parents, but they can be assumed to exist, probably.
For a significant time, Char has been deeply invested in a "strange and fascinating incident", which she says she once read about whilst "flu-turning-pneumonia-riddled and bored out of [her] skull" and allegedly was unable to find when she went to look into it again. According to her 'clear, vivid recollection of the recounting', the event was endemic to the city of Rome, Italy, and occurred on a single night in the spring of 2001, where some sort of strange mould infected an extensive percentage of the Roman population in what Char refers to as "a fungal flash epidemic" or "perhaps some kind of bioterroristic act".
According to Char's third-hand (at best) account, it appeared and spread in one night and then simply died out. The cause was cryptic and unprecedented, and the casualties were deeply significant. The incident seemed to have occurred concurrently with some sort of comparatively minor natural disaster that resulted in moderate property damage.
Char found the ordeal fascinating. When she went to investigate further, she found herself unable to find any mention of the event or even the original source from which she had read it, prompting many others to tell her she likely imagined it in a feverish state. Still, Char steadfastly insists that unwell or not, she knows she read it, and it was simply far too specific and coherent to be nothing more than the subject of a fever dream.
Ever since, Char has fervently sought out more about the event. She has been able to find bits and pieces of information that she does believe coincide with the event and may describe or mention it, and she has found numerous accounts of isolated incidents that seem to be related to it; however, as a Canadian, coming across information on an event that occurred over a decade prior, on one night only, in one city in Italy, is something of a task. She has dedicated a substantial amount of her free time to investigating the event, volunteering as a student library assistant in hopes it will give her greater access and drastically increase her chances of finally making a breakthrough. She is very openly convinced that if she could somehow solve the mystery, it would be 'an asset to [her] education and academic record', which is questioned by Minerva, "a bit of an understatement, isn't it?".
She talks at length, as well, about an Italian criminal, an ex-surgeon presumably known as Dr. Cioccolata, whom Char is convinced had something to do with the flash epidemic somehow, and has researched any records about him equally extensively in her pursuit of more information about the event, having read several books that mention him. Whilst typically strongly lacking in emotional fluctuation, speaking of the so-called "Dr." Cioccolata seems to anger her, and Payton has described this occurrence as Char's 'literal only nerve'. She speaks with a deep disdain for the actions and malpractice of Cioccolata and the countless vile things he's known to have done to people.
When prompted with, "Yeah, that sounds like something you'd be into" (courtesy of Payton), Char responded with a sneer.
"Absolutely fucking not. The only thing I hate more than a human being is a sadist." }

Char: ... - Hand me a scalpel, I'm going to do an autopsy.

Payton: I am NOT helpin' you desecrate a dead body just 'cuz we're stuck in here with one and you're startin' to get bored, Ms. Ed Gein.
Char: Why are you likening me to serial killers?!
Payton: 'CUZ THIS IS SOME SERIAL KILLER SHIT, CHARLENE! - YOU WANNA CUT UP A BODY IN SOME DINGY-ASS, URBEX-ASS BUILDING TO STUDY IT!!!
Payton: What, is Ed Gein too basic for your special brand of fucking insane? You'd rather be ... "likened to"... that freak Dr. Cioccolata guy you're so obsessed with?
Char: DO NOT EVER compare me in any way to that sadistic bastard ever again. - EVER.
Payton: M'kay, yeah, y'know what, Char? - This? This shit right here? - Yeah, this ain't makin' too good a case for you not bein' anythin' like the 'good doctor', y'know that, pana? - Don't think I don't remember how we met. How was that shit better than the crazy ass shit you say that guy's done?!

Payton: Is that what this is? Are these some INSANE daddy issues, Charlie?
Char: WILL YOU SHUT UP!?
Payton: Doubtful.
END TRANSCRIPT]
Payton's shirt reads "nice try, officer" across the chest and "i want a lawyer" across the stomach. loca - "crazy"
¡Al garete! - roughly means "to hell", or when describing the qualities of something or someone, "wild" or "reckless"
"Ain't a Finn's chance in Miami!" is an anti-proverb adaptation of 'not a snowball's chance in hell' as formulated by Payton, whose logic is simply that Finland is cold and Miami is 'hot', thus mirroring the standard phrase conceptually.
Ed Gein was an American criminal and (suspected) serial killer; he was known for body snatching and fashioning keepsakes from parts of the bodies he dug up.
Urbex - "Urban exploration", usually referring to the exploration of abandoned ruins and buildings. Payton's usage implies that the building they're trapped in is similarly abandoned and suitable for an urban explorer's activity.
pana - "pal". }
{Due to being busy, I cannot draw her right now, but I've been thinking about Char Goodman a lot lately. She's an interesting character. When I drew her into my OC chart, I described Good Charlotte, her Stand, as a 'poor man's Green Day'; fully in jest, but it did give me some ideas on developing her character more thoroughly. Anyone interested to hear?}
