There's several things that I hate here.

Forced Random-purchase - It's okay with baseball cards, but when I pay several dollars for a toy, I want the toy I want, not the chance of getting the toy I want, and a progressively smaller chance of getting a full set.  I'm not going to go for the foolish "it's gambling" argument, because it's not reasonable, but it's certainly a setup designed to make The House more money, more than they'd get if you could just buy the set and have done with.  Instead, people will need to buy CASES of these things to get the ones they want.  And still likely never get, because of the ...

"Ultra-Rare" toys 

The press release says, "The question is... Who will be the first to collect them all?"

NOBODY.  Only 100 of the second and eleventh Doctor figures?  That's not ultra-rare, that's obscene.  These are supposed to be TOYS.  Those hundred figures will never touch the hands of a child.  They'll be snapped up by speculators and priced past the realm of sanity.  

Virtual unavailability in the US - I for one would LOVE to have Doctor Who Lego-analogues.  But while these toys are plentiful and reasonably-priced in the UK (albeit hobbled by the virtual impossible distribution system), once you add in the various tariffs, middleman fees and just plain usurious mark-up by the more heartless dealers, they can cost several times more on this side of the Amy pond.

Personally, I think there's enough of a market over here that US licensees for Doctor Who toys are about due.  Yes, that might well cause the reverse to occur as US toys make their way across to the UK, but they've been having it soft for so long that I'm rather okay with that

is always my favorite part of starting a new writing project. there's nothing better than knowing you're in complete control, clay in palm.

I'm co-writing a story right now with someone, and we're character building first. it's so much fun :)
