eggfly and maybe blue moon?? still figuring him out
Can you tell me about your Haardrak Alius pretty please with a cherry on top? 🥺🥺🥺👉👈🙏🙏🙏
"anon" yeah right i know exactly what youre up to
and im all for it HAHA
this is alius and he is one of my haardraks :)
He was abandoned as an egg (which is a semi-common practice among haardraks that is losing popularity) but he still managed to learn more advanced language and social skills, though not by traditional means.
As a haardrak, he is offered one randomized magical ability. Haardraks are one of the less magically-inclined of the magical species in Draksauria, so usually, these abilities are mostly in the category of gimmicky party tricks that sometimes defy the rules of reality.
Alius's ability happened to be the ability to see "ghosts." Unfortunately, this was not a two-way street, since he's entirely invisible to them.
"Ghosts," in the Draksaurian sense, occur as a remnant projection of a magic-user, who doesn't necessarily have to be dead, but often is. For the most part, these are just the remnants of paranoid harpies who split off their consciousness to go act as a glorified security camera, though over the years they often move onto other things to entertain themselves. Sometimes, the formation of a ghost is related to certain conditions during death as well. Either way, there is a rather thriving community of ghosts, and Alius is one of the select few who are privy to their discussions.
Thanks to listening to their interactions, Alius was able to piece together an understanding of language and the wider world. He gained a passion for puzzle solving, as well as a bit of a morbid fascination with death. Eventually, he found his way to the city and built up a reputation as a rather dependable private investigator.
Alius is pretty soft-spoken and has a bad habit of not responding when spoken to, due to his history interacting with people who didn't even know he existed. Watching something that no one else can see certainly nets him some strange looks, as does his tendency to walk away in the middle of a "conversation" if he has an idea.
Despite a rocky start, he's definitely been able to carve out a nice life for himself, though he still struggles with interpersonal relationships and has yet to make any close friends- not counting the stray cheep that followed him home one day.
I saw your art on my dash, so now I am asking, what is draksauria?
I am GLAD YOU ASKED!! It's my child, a worldbuilding project with a main species (haardraks) that originated back from 2016! I would generally describe it as speculative biology meets fantasy, where a lot of classic fantasy creatures are present (griffins, harpies, pegasi, unicorns, sea serpents, phoenixes, etc) with my own twists.
Most of it is just massively self indulgent and while there are parts that i strive to make make sense, sometimes I handwave a few things because of "magic" because I found them cool. There's a heavy focus on reptiles/reptilian animals for this reason.
Most of the public information about the world is located here but I can do a quick run through below as well :)
Haardraks, as mentioned, are kind of the star of the show since they came first and everything else formed around them. They're part of a lineage of hexapodal reptiles (or at least, reptile-convergent since phylogenetically their last ancestor with tetrapods was still pretty fishlike) thats known for a) having 6 limbs and b) having some form of magical ability.
Here's some rather messy and basic information sheets of them and their features.
Other members of this hexapodal reptile lineage include tiefdraks (aquatic sea-dragon type creatures), harpies (bird people), and cheeps (chicken pterosaur lizards)
Tiefdraks are the creators of phoenixes, which are a entirely inorganic, living rock kind of being and initially were made as mobile hydrothermal vents. They sometimes make it to the surface through volcanic activity and shatter into thousands of smaller birdlike creatures, earning them their moniker.
Harpies are very good or at least used to be very good at species synthesis magic. Their ancestral relatives created pegasi and were subsequently wiped out by them since the pegasi were tired of being used as slaves. Modern harpies only kind of learned from their relatives mistakes and made griffins, but ended up not pushing the whole servitude deal and griffins became independent without driving harpies to extinction. Unicorns aren't magic at all, though. They're just weird deer relatives.
(As a note the griffin image shows both griffins and grups, grups being the smaller type. Griffins are sapient, grups are not. They are entirely different species. Grups were created before griffins as a sort of proof of concept.)
Harpies, pegasi, griffins, and grups share a sort of bird "bonding" that determines a species of bird that they share features with. The exact mechanisms of this are still somewhat of a mystery but they are generally observed to be affected by environment, proximity to the specific species, and parental genetics. Griffin feline halves are determined similarly, but pegasi horse halves are 100% genetics.
This is really only scratching the surface but I think it does display the variety of stuff I have going on here and I would love to answer any more specific questions anyone has :)
Anyone is also completley free to engage with the world themselves and make their own characters with these species, there's a very small Discord server, the Toyhouse world, and obviously yours truly to consult for any extra information!
I shall stop rambling for now but know that Draksauria asks are always welcome in my inbox
guys you should look at chartreuse shes very cool and very bird
my brain is filled with haardraks right now you should ask me about haardraks and draksauria you really should
