I present to you my case of bad luck:

“Pray that I don’t like the same character you like”

I just wanted to share my case of bad luck with fandoms with you guys. Every time I start to become invested in a show, something happens to my favorite character. With the news of Samira not being in s3, I reflected how many times this has happened to me. I have come to the conclusion that I should just try not to have favorites because I know that I can’t deal with the show once they are gone IF the reason they are gone is a stupid one.

Here is the evidence (spoilers I guess?): Samira in the Pitt, Glenn and Carl in The walking Dead TV series AND Andrea in TWD comics, Ned and Margaery in GoT, Lexie in Grey’s Anatomy, Bodie and Omar in The Wire, Joel in TLOU, Hank in Breaking Bad, Sweets in Bones… The worst part is that I can keep going.

Some of the examples given are not stupid exits (Ned) and some a pretty stupid (Carl, seriously? SAMIRA??? Seriously??).

Btw, not comparing any show or type of exit or how much significance it holds in the show. Just showing my poor luck!!!!! ✌🏻🤡

do you think that Jay's resignation from season 9 - 10x03 was hinted at and it was a gradual process for him?

After watching the S9 finale, did I think that Jay was possibly leaving? NOOOO. To me, it came out of nowhere. I had so many theories of what I thought was next for Jay during the summer hiatus. The show was definitely setting Jay up as the next Sargeant. So no, a possible goodbye to Jay was not hinted at.

Usually, when a main character is written off, they get at least a half-season storyline that writes them out. There is a gradual progression toward the character's exit. But for Jay, it was so sudden. Came out of nowhere. Never in a million years would I have thought Jesse/Jay was leaving.

It’s been more than two months since 10x03 aired and a lot of it still doesn’t make sense.

Like so many others I think it would‘ve been way easier and more believable to give Jay a new job in a different unit or have him go do something at the academy, that’s why I’m wondering if there’s a bigger plan behind all of it.

His exit is just so open-ended, at the end of this season or beginning of the next at the latest, the writers will have to address it again. I guess it does make sense from a Storytelling pov but it almost feels like they wrote it that way to set up something else (whether it’s a more finite exit or a comeback on the show I’m not sure).

There are a lot of things that didn't make sense with Jay's exit, but it is what it is. And you are right; there are other ways that Jay could have been written off that wouldn't have saddened Hailey and the fans. But, who knows, maybe Gwen wrote it this way to help further another storyline. Maybe Jay was only allowed to stay for 3 episodes and had to be gone by the fourth. It was definitely rushed and one of PD's worst exits.

The exit was definitely open-ended, meaning there is still hope for a Jay return, even if it's temporary. I think there is more to Jay's exit. I think there is a reason why Jay said 8 months in 10x03. I think there is a reason why Jay promised Hailey that they will get through this. I have my theories, and I'm sure you have yours. All we can do is wait and hope that Gwen doesn't disappoint us.

Hey, i'm not sure if you'd know this but maybe someone in the soap fandom might? ^^; I just wanna know out of curiosity, are there ever cases where the writers want to kill off a character but the actor doesn't want to leave? Say Adam didn't want to leave Emmerdale, but ED wanted Adam's character dead. Could they technically do that? A lot of characters seem to die at the same time, do they just time the actors who want out's deaths into one big event or choose who? (Summer Fate, the crash etc.)

I’m pretty sure the actors don’t have a choice.. if the boss says their out then their out! 

I could be wrong though, so if anyone want’s to add to this, please do. :)

sorry one more thing, if they really had to go with heart attack I think alice telling him off and rejecting him should have been the last thing to happen I don't like that she never told him off after alfie and the vic or forcing tanya to get rid of joey. It just felt rushed and not very well thought out, sorry writers but I give you a C- for this character exit. a little more thought next time okay?
