Nano Prep

So, I have a headache from hell at the moment, but I am working on my notes for my Nanowrimo Project this year. I am still not sure what I am calling it, but I do have it basically outlined in my preferred style, that is listing out all of the important events in order. I deviate some as I write and get a good idea, but I tend to stick to that basic outline and just add notes (in a different color so I know those are add-ons to the original) when I write something that deviates. By the end of my writing the first draft, I have a general summary of my story that makes the second draft so much easier to write.

Today, though, today is creating character sheets. This is perhaps my most favorite part of pre-planning. I get to write down all the important and not-so-important bits about my characters. For this project, I have my main protagonist, Alicia Cruz, and her squad of 3 others. Then I have the main antagonist, Michael Dunmore, and an important secondary character, Sam Albers.

Everyone has their own way of doing character sheets/summaries, whatever you use to keep your characters’ traits organized. Feel free to use mine if you’d like. I use the following:

His two music types are all out classic rock or soft alternative everything else is fine but it’s filler

Always wanted to go to Oregon (because it’s Pre’s school) but it’s too far and he didn’t have the money.

It high key broke Patrick’s heart when they closed, but he was happy that he got to take Yuri before they did

Blackhawks, switches off between the Cubs and Sox every year but comes down as a Cubs fan when it matters for the cross town classic, Bears fan (though he hates to say so) and a Bulls fan too.

Loved getting to run the North Side/South Side challenge his freshman year of high school, missed running it when he went to Detroit.

Loves just…walking around his city

Being surrounded by the buildings is like a giant hug

Loves hanging out in Millennium Park in the summers, fond memories of Crown Fountain as a kid, ice skated on the public rink in the winter, hung out for all the free concerts all the time

It’s the Sears Fucking Tower. The Willis Tower is just fake.

WGN is the only news station worth watching, even if he has lived in Detroit since he was 14.

Loves all the museums

The stock exchange room in the Art Museum is his favorite, but the blue windows are pretty cool too.

Spent a lot of afternoons avoiding going home by hanging out in the Lincoln park conservatory

And the free zoo was always nice too, although that spider totally needs to be in a fucking case\

Refuses to go into that building if he can help it

Tried to harass the kookaburra. Failed.

Museum of Science and Industry is his favorite, though he’s not sure why. All the interactive exhibits?

Hangs out on Navy Pier a lot

Wishes he could ride the full size Ferris wheel instead of the replica

Used to go to Shakespeare theater with his school and loved it

Strangely fascinated by the stain glass window museum near the end of the pier??

They have a nice indoor garden too. Great place to do homework.

Also: Patrick acquires an Irish accent whenever he talks to his grandpa

Whenever he talks to his mom too

He can’t help it and he doesn’t understand why.

Basically just mimicking the way they talk (both have Irish accents)

Accents It’s because they’re both native Irish, born and bred.

Mom came for work, gramps came when his wife died and he couldn’t stand to be there without her

Also wanted to make sure his daughter was raising Patrick right

She wasn’t, clearly.

He, Yuri and Theia (and later Phichit) had a private web series that they used to communicate over the summer/other holidays

It’s essentially a multi-person vlog

It’s great fodder for Patrick to make his crack vids (along with Phichit’s candid videos)

That’s right. Patrick’s the kind of person who makes crack videos of he and his friends.
