“Aaaaaannnnnnddd I’ll take that!” I laughed, raking in the small pile of coins, thank you luck of the cards! Michael gave a small eye roll, while Lisa just scowled at me. Much to my amusement.
I picked up the deck of cards we were playing with, adding our cards back to it and shuffling it a little, going to deal out our next hands before our phone rang, with Micheal getting up to answer it. Guess we were needed elsewhere, shame, I was enjoying winning.
“Well?” Lisa asked once Micheal put the phone down.
“Scene that needs investigating out in Sector M, some stores that got broken into.” He answered, with both of us getting up.
“They want us to pick up a trail on the culprit?” I asked, picking up my bodysuit & putting it on over my casual wear; god the thing was always really uncomfortable...
“Pretty much.” Micheal answered, as he & Lisa got their suits on too, checking that their IDs were in their pockets; a check I quickly did myself, “Just a general evidence search, nothing big, I don’t think.”
“Something easy for us to get paid for, finally.” Lisa said, something I couldn’t help but smirk slightly at, evidently she noticed, “What?”
“Nothing hon.” I answered, “Just that you say that like its easier for us to get paid for actually doing our jobs, rather than for us to get paid sitting around playing poker.” I laughed, “But hey, what’s life without a few rotten eggs to weed out hey?”
Lisa did not seem amused.
Once we arrived, we were greeted by a Dark Asteroid soldier, who gave us a quick salute. “You the Investigation Unit squad we requested?” She asked, with the three of us giving our Black Rock bows in response.
“Yes ma’am.” Micheal answered, “Squad G, Unit 14.”
“Splendid.” The Dark Asteroid soldier said, before giving us a quick run down of the situation, apparently the shop’s owner potentially had some information to share with us. So we decided to split up slightly.
“I’ll see what they have to say, you two see if you can find anything out here?” I said to Lisa & Micheal, seeing them nod in agreement, “‘kay. I’ll join you for a final sweep once I’m done.”
Splitting off from the two of them, I walked into the storefront, seeing someone cleaning up the damage that I could only assume was caused by the robbery. “Good morning sir.” I greeted, pulling out & holding up my Military ID. “Mallisia Ring, Black Rock Investigation Unit.” I introduced myself, “I was told you may have some information regarding the robbery that took place last night? My partners are outside searching for any evidence, but I’m sure whatever you have to say will help us in the long run, if you don’t mind.”
I couldn’t help but notice him scowl slightly as he spoke, “It’s about time someone willing to listen to me shows up!” He snapped. Oh good, he was pissed off, understandable, but still frustrating to work with. Still had to keep my cool though.
“The other officers will have been listening to you sir I assure you.” I said, finding myself a seat across from him, “We just like to gather evidence and assess the scene before taking proper statements. My partners are outside in search of any potential leads, while they are working, do you mind if I ask you some questions?”
The guy responded with a seemingly reluctant grunt, something I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow to ever so slightly, nevertheless, he answered my questions, which I noted down in my notepad. “Thank you for your time sir.” I said, getting to my feet & giving a small smile, “I’ll let you go now, I imagine you’d like to get back to work as soon as possible.” I said, before heading outside to meet up with Lisa and Micheal again to take notes on the few bits of evidence they’d found.
Before I could gather Lisa and Michael however, the Dark Asteroid soldier waved me over, with someone else by their side, a Double Breed? I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow before walking over. “What’s up?” I asked, before being told this DB had offered to say something regarding our case. ‘Alright then, lets see how this goes’, I thought to myself, pulling my notepad back out of my bodysuit’s top pocket. “Did you hear or see anything unusual last night?” I began by asking.
“Y-Yes officer, n-not seeing, b-but I did hear a lot.” She answered, giving me a look as if asking for permission to continue, which I responded to with a small nod. “I heard some knocks a-and a door open and close. I-I thought nothing of it, until I heard what s-sounded like a few shots.”
Shots? Now that was unexpected, I thought we were just dealing with a robbery here. I raised an eyebrow, “How many?” I asked.
I shared a look with the Dark Asteroid soldier, who pulled her own handgun from its holster, “Likely one of these then, assuming it was the full clip.” She said, letting me note down the make of her gun for reference before telling the Double Breed to continue.
“A-After a bit, I heard the door again, then a smash. A-a few actually. I-I glanced out once everything was quiet again, s-saw th-that that display window was shattered.” She told us.
I frowned slightly, writing down what she said. “Anything else?” I asked, seeing her respond with a small shake of the head, “Thank you, you may go now. We’ll contact your owner if we need you for anything else.” I told her, giving a small nod to the other soldier as I went to meet up with Lisa and Michael.
“So this is interesting.” I told them, “We had a DB come by- yeah yeah I know L chill.” I cut myself off, seeing Lisa scowl at the mere mention of a Double Breed, “She had some interesting things to say, some knocks, door opening, pause, some gunshots, door again, then smashed glass.” I relayed my notes to them, seeing the two of them look at each other in surprise.
“Cover up?” Michael asked.
“Maybe.” I said, “Searching out here isn’t doing us any good. We need to search the building itself I’d say.”
“You said there was gunshots?” Lisa asked, “Then maybe we can get away with going without a warrant under guise of murder?”
“Could be self-defence, hard to tell.” Michael frowned slightly, with me shaking my head in response.
“He’d have told me if he had to defend himself from an attacker, plus the knocks.” I pointed out, “I think you’re right in saying it’s a cover up story Mike. We search the building and question the guy on this statement.”
The three of us soon agreed, quickly informing the Dark Asteroid soldier before heading back inside, much to the owner’s irritation. Not that he got a chance to complain before Lisa took over.
“Sit down and shut up.” She said, with her knife drawn, “My partners are going to search this place, then we’re asking you some more questions, capiche?” She snapped.
I had to hold back a small smirk in response as the guy nodded rather frantically, could already tell from the look on his face that he had SOMETHING to hide and we’d soon find out what.
Me and Michael came across a locked door during the search around, although it was nothing a quick fiddle with a blade couldn’t sort.
“Oh shit...” Michael said as we saw the scene beyond the door, with a body laying on the large bed up against the wall.
“That explains the shots I guess....” I mumbled, walking over to the body to inspect it, “Shot through the back...” I frowned, carefully turning the body over to check over their front, placing a finger on their neck to be absolutely sure there was no signs of life.
“We’re gonna need an identity for this person.” Michael said, with me glancing over to him and nodding, “I’ll put the call out, see if anyone’s available to research it.” He added.
I nod again, continuing to look over the body before turning my attention to the rest of the room, giving it a quick sweep while Michael fiddled with his earpiece, putting out a request to any Asteroid Union Army Medical Staff.for identification on an unknown homicide victim.
Once Michael was done with his call and we’d both swept the room for a bit more evidence, we headed back downstairs, with me sitting by Lisa. “You’ve got some explaining to do...” I said to the shop manager, pulling my notepad out once again, “Up on the second floor of this building, we found a, seemingly fresh, body. A female. Their wounds imply shots through the back, a witness came forward with reports of audible gunshots last night. Would you happen to know anything about that?” I question, with my eyes narrowing ever so slightly as we watched the guy stutter and panic.
“I don’t...!” He pathetically squeaked, with Lisa scoffing.
“Try again buddy.” She said, holding her knife out.
“Our witness’ statement also implies that you were complacent, and that your store was robbed after the shots she heard.” I continued, “If that’s the case, then how did you not discover and report the murder? Plus, the door to that room, which appeared to be the only bedroom in this building, was locked.” I said, getting to my feet.
“You’re under arrest for suspicion of murder.” I said, with Michael and Lisa wasting no time in restraining the guy, “You will be held for further questioning and this case will be elevated to an Asteroid Unit Homicide Investigation Unit.” I finished, placing my notepad back into my top pocket and heading out ahead of them to inform the Dark Asteroid handler on the scene of our finds and our verdict.
Now I just need to file some paperwork and this case is out of our hands, not what I was expecting from a simple robbery report that’s for sure.
(Fuck this has being sat unfinished in my drafts for so long, but I wanted to write a first person thing with Mallisia actually doing her damn job as a Black Rock Military Investigation Unit Officer. This may be the longest thing I’ve written for this blog? Not too sure honestly.)
