these are so perfect for ATH you have no idea. thank you for the ask! I'll probably finish this scene in the wee hours of Monday morning because it's 11:48pm sunday right now but i AM starting it on a sunday and i think that counts for something. ;P

The ruins scattered across Terra Verde have stood for time immemorial. Centuries have worn away their identifying marks, but Tagoni likes playing a guessing game as she picks through the remnants of what life was like before.

This one once housed a school, she thinks, with its great halls full of rows of twisted metal that might have once been seating. What did they learn about? What did their apprentices have to know before they were considered capable?

Tagoni has long since stopped asking questions like these aloud as she delves; it's an eerie sound, the echo of her voice off walls that no other human has touched in a millennium. Not even the ghosts of the past are here to listen.

She really ought to leave this particular ruin for the scouts. They can bring back the treasure trove of artifacts that lies deep inside for the archaeologists back in Paredes to examine. But there was something that had drawn her here, so she ignores the artifacts and continues deeper.

Had this been a place once rich with Source? Could there still be a spark of a Well?

She's found a few in the former urban metropolis to the north, but those had died out soon after discovery. This would surely be no different, but she had to know. And so she digs.

The canisters clanked together in protest as Tagoni shifted the carrier off her back, the glass still holding onto droplets from the morning's rainstorm. They glittered like little jewels in the early morning sun, but they would dry up soon enough: This hill marked the last opportunity to check the seedlings before making the arduous trek across the wastes.

Traveling to and from Paredes meant journeying through miles of ruined land in every direction. 'Every trip a battle, every courier a soldier'—that's what Ori always said. Tagoni and the other guild members each carried a payload that would help the Greenhouse Project reclaim the wastes one tiny plant at a time.

Checking the valves, pipes, and fittings on her canisters, Tagoni replenished the Source in each one. She would do her part to make Terra Verde live up to its name, yes. But the wastes were home to the Withered, and the Withered did not want her there. So, with her precious cargo in tow, Tagoni took a deep breath, looked straight ahead, and began the long descent into the tainted lands before her.

Only Source would keep her safe.

I think if Tagoni were to scheme something major, she'd share it with either her best friend Wren first and then Ori... or Ori first, depending on who she's with. She knows they'll both be on board either way!

Pretty sure something along these lines will happen in Athenaeum at some point :^)

Happy late late WBW! What sort of celebrations/holidays are there in your world? Do your OCs like them or hate them? @catharticallysarcastic

It's okay, I'm answering so late it's almost Early WBW :P

In the world of Athenaeum, Initiation Day is a pretty big deal. It's when apprentices in the Greenhouse Project finally become full-fledged members of their respective guilds. There's usually a big festival, and traveling merchants all come and set up shop in a bright, colourful celebration! The festivities usually start a day or two early and finish a day or two late, but the ceremonies themselves all take place within one day.

At the start of the story (as it exists currently), Tagoni is looking forward to her forthcoming initiation along with the other conduits. Wren has been a member of the engineers' guild for a year and is excited for his best friend, too! Ori and Masha, their mentors, have been through enough of these that they're just another yearly Thing to worry about, but they're happy for their apprentices anyway.

Leilanie, on the other hand, is not a big fan because she doesn't like crowds or crowded spaces.

Other celebrations in the area are the anniversary of the founding of the city of Paredes and the Greenhouse Project, and the Feast of the Guilds. The Greenhouse Project conduits (the whole main cast except Leilanie) love them, and unsurprisingly, Leilanie does not. ;P

What's are some motivations for your MCs? What do they want out of life/their story? Happy STS!

Happy STS! (We can pretend that second S stands for Sunday too, right? ;D)

Beck is motivated by her loyalty to her family, survival, and trying not to make the world a worse place than it already is. In the beginning of Rocket Boosters, she is heading west to reunite with her brother because he's the only family she has left.

Tagoni's motivations... are a work in progress. Athenaeum developed more as a setting without as much thought to the characters, so I've been working backwards trying to create narrative arcs for the characters within that setting. Currently, I'm trying to decide if she's motivated by her sense of duty to her guild, or if she is more interested in unraveling the hidden history of the world that came before. Or maybe something else entirely! Those are both motivations, but I want to know what her priorities are xD

🍈 which oc is most like you? Why?

I'd say Tagoni, the MC of Athenaeum. Her arc involves learning to question 'the way we've always done things.' She loves learning, but doesn't often go out of her way to find answers because it simply doesn't occur to her that she can. Her life has been build on habit and routine; when she gets thrust into the plot, she's definitely going to flounder a bit. I can relate to that a lot :)

🍋 is there a character that is a fan favorite among people who know your writing? Who is it?

I'd say probably Hawthorne on the basis that I talk about him a lot. He's one of those "goofball with secret" types and I do a lot of character work with him in private messages with other writer friends. However, I also haven't shared too much of my actual writing with anyone yet so it's hard to say! Remains to be seen :D
