Hey there! If it's alright, I'd like some advice for a character.
I have an OC who is loosely based on the Horsemen of War. As such, her powers revolve around destruction.
Recently, I've been thinking about giving her borderline personality disorder because she exhibits most of the traits, barring some exceptions. I'm hesitant to make it canon, though
She's not violent 24/7. She likes cute things and loves her family and is very loyal, stuff like that, but I'm concerned about playing into the stereotype that "all people with BPD are violent" because of what her power is.
Any suggestions, or am I just overthinking this? Should I just leave it as coding?
Thanks for your time ♡
hi! thank you for the ask love ♡
i don't see any issues in this, especially since you've also developed her beyond the "inappropriate anger" which is one of the most well known traits for bpd & recognized that it can become it's own harmful stereotype!
honestly, having her play into that with her destruction powers would be cathartic to me personally as someone with the destructive subtype, though i know other borderlines can & do feel differently which is their complete right. it's just why i personally relate to bpd coded villains like harley & anakin lol.
what i would suggest is looking into what the triggers are for the inappropriate anger that can occur in bpd, as well as the accompanying feelings & actions such as splitting. this can make the world of difference between just having her be this angry, destructive person & humanizing that with circumstances as to why she feels this way: a lot of people forget that anger is a protective emotion & holds no moral value intrinsically, it's okay to be angry so having that tie in with the destructive powers can do a lot for her.
totally feel free to hmu further if you need to!
