It was time to do some fishing.

Chiikawa sat themself along the edge of the river in a careful kind of way.

"Mm..."

Chiikawa could already tell that the fish in this river were quite large. Perhaps too large for them to handle alone. They certainly didn't want a repeat of the last time.

"Hey, kid."

"You been seemin' a li'l off lately. Somethin' on yer mind?"

He crouches beside them on the living room floor, opening up a brown paper bag and reaching in for the brownie inside. Wolfwood offers it over to them. It's got chocolate chunks in it and is still warm.

"Or just them teenage woes?"

He was wandering, admittedly. He had a vague knowledge of where he's home of residence was... but he wasn't interested in that just yet. He wanted some sort of bearings. Maybe a map? Though he doesn't think that would be very helpful anyway.

His line of reasoning was solid as he stood on top of a lamp post, hand blocking the sun as he squinted around the city.

Which wouldn't be a problem if he didn't lose his footing. Instead of crashing on top of the other kid that just so happened to be walking by, he dented the top of a car instead.

He looked as stunned as whomever the vehicle belongs to when they discover a child size dent to it's roof.

"Is-- this thing yours?"

"I wasn't--" What did he say? Was Lorene literally that lost in thought that he had no idea what had prompted such a response? He paused for a moment, thinking it over.

"Oh." He realized, suddenly, where he'd gone wrong. He'd been thinking out loud--in Canto Elvish. (Cantonese Chinese, by the standards of people from most Earth-adjacent worlds). And he'd forgotten that in Spirale, people could just understand you, regardless of which language you spoke in. (What was the point of being fluent in four languages if everyone understood him in every single one? It made talking shit a lot more difficult. Or thinking aloud, as was the case now.)

"Right. I was just thinking about...the fire safety angle here, in all honesty. Sorry. It's a thing I do--when you live in a country at war, sometimes your background thought processes are, 'how well would this structure hold up during a siege?' Fire is absolutely a weapon that besieging armies use. So, making the roof wet even when it's structurally unsound or a fire hazard, is absolutely a valid tactic to defend your Keep."

Chin resting in his palm, he tilts his head just enough to look askance at the child.

"Even the best person can be ruined—so yes, certainly."
