2013 Taste the Distinction Chilean Chardonnay £8, Sainsbury’s

Made for Sainsbury’s by the superb Errazuriz, this is chardonnay in its purest kind, with tiny influence of the oak barrels it is frequently matured in. It is fresh and vibrant with green apples, melon and a touch of tropical fruit. Acquire six, get 25 per cent off and you then have a bargain.

2013 Chardonnay Montsablé, Pays d’Oc, France £9.99, Elwood Wines

Several of the greatest chardonnays come from Burgundy, where £10 buys you really small. This is as a result a bargain textured and with subtle spice, ripe pear, flowers and a tiny cream in the background. Decant and tell your guests it is a £25 bottle of Meursault.

2012 Beaujolais-Villages ‘Marguerite’ Château Thivin, France £14.30, Christopher Piper Wines
