Charge Bikes 2012 Preview - Part 1
The night before last Charge Bikes tweeted that they would have their 2012 bike range on show for one day only at the Conran store in London, and conveniently we were in London for Gumball 3000, so we killed 2 birds with 1 tube pass, and headed to the ever so posh Conran storeinthe afternoon to see what the local guys have up their sleeve for next year. With a few changes to their current range as well as a whole load of new bikes, the Charge line up is looking stronger than ever. Here are just some of the photos I took, along with a little info on what you're looking at. More to come so keep your eyes peeled!
This is the new Plug. Now with retro 1" threaded steerer & quill stem, along with Charge's own crankset keeping the price down, meaning the lower of the 2 models comes in at only £449! Pictured is the Tange model coming in at £599.
This is the controversial Scissor complete bike. The finished model will have an ever smaller frame, favoured by fixed tricksters (see: jump bike), giving it loads of manouverability, but Charge have kitted it out with dirt tyres rather than slicks, giving a nod towards their mountain bike background. This will be popular I'm sure, more people should take up MTB street/dirt though.
These are the all new Cooker 29er bikes, ranging in price from the rigid bike at only £699, up to the higher spec front sus model at £999. These are great bikes for those just stepping into the 29er market, though if you're looking for a bling 29er, Charge have been testing titanium Cooker frames, so be sure to see one of those too soon!
On the more traditional sized cross country front, Charge will have Skinny Duster bikes starting at a great price of £999 (I have a Skinny Duster frame & it rides amazingly, photos soon), along with the titanium Duster frame, here is an example they've built using some of the best componentry available. The funny thing is that this £4,000ish bike is standing on a £3,000 table (there was a lot of valuable furniture in that store!). Carbon rim Crank Bros wheels along with XX groupset make this bike extremely light & looking amazing, now all you need is the spare £1,499 for the frame!
