Update for my followers
Some of you, knowing I live in LA, have asked about my well-being these last couple of days. So here it is.
I am safe. I had to work today, and we had to close up early because of a nearby protest, but there was no violence at our location and no looting. I walked to my car safely and made it home with little interruption. The protests have been deemed unlawful assemblies, so currently there’s an 8pm curfew throughout most of Los Angeles.
I’ve signed petitions and donated what I could, but I’m off work tomorrow, so I plan to attend protests. I will do my research and attend as peaceably as I can, as I always do.
I was safe today, yes. But many people were not. And many people will continue to not be safe in this country, so just a reminder, as said by Holocaust historian and scholar Yehuda Bauer: “Thou shalt not be a victim, thou shalt not be a perpetrator, but above all, thou shalt not be a bystander.”
So, speak. Shout. Act. Anything less is just a quieter violence.
