#FanOfSportsmanship: Skippers’ Fontaine stops race to aid opposing runner in distress

     Chariho Athletic Director Mike Shiels, left, and Chariho Principal Craig Mackenzie paid a visit to North Kingstown High School on Thursday morning so they could deliver a bouquet of flowers to senior Renee Fontaine.

     North Kingstown Athletic Director Dick Fossa shares more about the great story of sportsmanship that prompted their visit:

     “This past Monday at a Cross Country meet at Chariho High School, a Chariho runner had a very serious medical emergency while on the course.  Renee Fontaine, a North Kingstown Senior, stopped during the race to give assistance.  Renee did not finish the race as she stayed with the Chariho runner.  The condition was serious enough where the runner needed to be transported to the hospital via rescue.  Renee was more concerned about the condition of the Chariho girl than finishing the race or team results.”
