A lot of the bacteria I work with can't grow in our normal atmosphere - oxygen is toxic to them. We manage this by using an anaerobic chamber with a gas mix that doesn't include oxygen, but a hydrogen nitrogen and carbon dioxide mixture. Anaerobic bacteria are really interesting to study in he context of human diseases. They are found in chronic wounds, at our mucosal surfaces, and have been heavily studied in the context of oral and dental health! Just one of the fun and unusual things in the daily life of a microbiologist! #lablife #charismaticmicrofauna #lifesciences #microbiology (at University of Minnesota)
I mean, is there a prettier combo than some staph aureus on MSA? I think not. #nofilter #staphylococcusaureus #lablife #microbiology #charismaticmicrofauna (at University of Minnesota)
