Traveling | Charles & Rose

Rose tried to climb into the carriage after Howard and Anna, but her father had stopped her. You shall travel with your brother, he instructed, guiding her away with his cane. She would have had something to say about being so eagerly tossed aside, had not the prospect of riding in a carriage with Charles be far preferable to riding in the one with Howard and her father.

She’d grabbed Anna’s hand as soon as Clarence had made that announcement, but their father was just as quick to demand that Anna rode with him, as he ensure that Rose did not. 

When she was situated into the carriage with Charles, she half-laughed for he had taken up most of the carriage with his books and instruments that had not fit into his trunk - there wouldn’t have been much room for Anna, after all. “Are you taking your entire laboratory?” Rose teased.

Rose realized she should not have been surprised, at all, by this as Charles always chose to stay surrounded by his books and research - even when parted from his laboratory - and she knew that he had not been especially eager for this trip, as he was starting to enter more critical stages of his project. 

“Did you make any new discoveries?” She asked, eager for any news. She had left her window open - letting the first of the warm spring air fill her rooms - and she had heard her brother working well into the night. Whether it was because of a breakthrough, or because he knew it would be sometime before he was reunited with all of his equipment, she meant to know.

Favorite thing to do on rainy days?

Anna’s ideally rainy day activities would consist of hiding out in the conservatory with Charles and Rose. She could set up her easel to paint while Charles tinkers with whatever he is working on at the moment. Rose could help her brother or read and be the one who is sent on a secret excursion to the kitchen for provisions so they needn’t leave their little hideaway for meals.

So Cora is bffs with Anna/was childhood bffs with Howard, so I feel like she would definitely know Charles!!!!! Honestly, if he had any other dad, she might think less of him since he’s so set in his loyalist ways (honestly she can’t even understand how anyone can think that way???). bUT she has known the calverts for a long time and thinks that there is a lot of good in all of them, but they’ve been sorely misguided by their dad!!!!!! 

I think she’d like Charles a lot! He’s smart and intelligent and his heart is in the right place. 

but ... even so, she still thinks that charles (and all of them tbh!!!) should have learned to think for themselves a little more than they have and I think she’s most likely to judge Charles the most harshly for this b/c she’s not as close with him as the others haha (which isn’t fair, she realizes, but anyway!!) 

not sure if she hears about the machine charles is working on through the rumor mill??? but if/when she does she will be very eager to discuss it with him so she can best figure out a way to stop (or at least delay!!!) him haha.
