That year, the United Student Peace Committee, which organized these rallies annually, was split between those who advocated isolationism and those who called for peace while emphasizing “the necessity of upholding President Roosevelt’s plea to the dictators.” At NYU, however, the two opposing groups managed to create a united front and met together.
