His Excellency: “If you meet our requirements, we'll be only too glad to accommodate you. Uh, would you be good enough to mention, for instance, some outstanding crime you've committed?” - Henry Van Cleve: “Crime? Crime? I'm afraid I can't think of any, but I can safely say my whole life was one continuous misdemeanor.” - The Ernst Lubitsch Binge Continues At The Aristocrat With: Heaven Can Wait - #HeavenCanWait #ErnstLubitsch #GeneTierney #DonAmeche #CharlesCoburn #Film #Filmmaking #Filmmakers #Writing #Screenwriting #HerosJourney #Comedy #Drama #HoorayForHollywood #OnceMoreWithFeeling #UnpackYourAdjectives #WriteAtYourOwnPeril #OldHollywood #ClassicHollywood #GoldenHollywood (at Las Vegas, Nevada) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZAFzN2vwYZ/?utm_medium=tumblr
MM was my gateway drug to classic movies. One of the most enjoyable experiences I've had at a #TCMFF screening (2019) - I know all the words to all the songs and sang along in my head. GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES, tonight at 11:45 PM on #TCM. #CharlesCoburn #letsmovie https://www.instagram.com/p/CCtEtPDAzia/?igshid=4mv8vairnqtn

Movie no.18: so I’m continuing my #365classicmoviechallenge by finishing up the 4 movies I was gonna watch last night (I watched 2) and continue it with tonight’s movie so I can be back on track 😊 The first one I just watched actually it was the 1953 musical comedy “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” starring the iconic Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell also co-starring Charles Coburn 😊 This is probably Marilyn’s most memorable role as the lovely but dimwitted Lorelei Lee. Marilyn’s other memorable films include How To Marry A Millionaire & Some Like It Hot 😊 Even though Marilyn is more often remembered for her role Jane’s role as Dorothy is also highly remembered for her sharp quick wit which many critics praised her for. This movie includes the iconic musical number “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” which is probably the most memorable part in this film. The Fox studio at the time really wanted to dub Marilyn’s voice at the time for all the musical numbers that she did because they thought she sounded silly but Marni Nixon the one who was planned to dub her voice was against it saying that her voice fitted her character and eventually Nixon would only dub the high notes & with the “Diamonds” number in particular she only did the “No, No, No’s” part and the lyric “These rocks don’t lose its shape”. The song became a classic and many celebrities later paid homage to Marilyn recreating it the biggest example would be Madonna’s music video for “Material Girl” In 1985. Marilyn & Jane got along really well on set & became good friends. Jane used to call Marilyn “Blondl” and Jane would be the only one to get Marilyn out of her trailer to start filming. They were often seen together during the promoting of the film most notably when they were awarded the honour of putting their hand and footprints in the cement at the front of the Grauman Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. The film was a hit at the box office and only furthered Marilyn’s success as an actress and it’s this film that truly made an icon when it comes to classic Hollywood. #classicmovienight #classicmovies #marilynmonroe #janerussell #gentlemenpreferblondes #howardhawks #charlescoburn #classichollywood
