The end of love
I will never forget
the way your soft eyes met mine for the first time.
And I will always regret
every decision that was made to not see them again.

Lump
I can feel it much
more often, these days.
My heart attempting to
free itself
by clawing it’s way
up my throat.
Absolutely hell bent on jumping out
of this body that
torments it.
Entirely fed up with being forced
to love
you.
They say
that memory
is a fickle bitch.
the more you recall
something,
the more you will
forget it,
so I’ll just replay
you on one knee,
and eventually,
it will be gone
and maybe I will
be, too.
How much
more
alone
can I get?
You’re
determined
to
find out.
Same old
You asked to read my poetry,
under a full sky of stars,
as you crawled into your sleeping bag
next to mine,
next to me.
I let you in my car.
I wanted you close.
You asked,
because you wanted to seem different.
You wanted me to believe you were different.
I believed you, kid.
But you never care to read
them.
You don’t even remember that
I write.
I spend my nights next to you,
not touching,
and wishing I could go back to that time.
The one where my pathetic poems,
and me,
aren’t so annoying and irrelevant.
Beau
How could I have loved you, then?
We were young,
really young,
and everyone else calls that a crush,
but you and I,
did we know something they didn’t?
It was chemical,
visceral.
Inexplicably
fantastic.
We laughed, played,
and cried for days
after I moved away.
We were “first.”
We were never wrong.
We weren’t yet broken.
We were in love.
So, so innocently
and completely in love.
First love.
Just go
No one
is there to hear you
when you say
that you feel
invisible.
No one even
cares.
No one cares you
cry.
And when they happen to
hear you,
they say
“Be quiet!”
So shut up and
do it, kid!
We all want you to
BE QUIET!
Alex
We met when we were 8,
something like
It is only now,
that I realize
you
were,
are
my one true love.
I remember ages 8-13,
when we were
“friends.”
We would compete for
better grades,
and more goals in soccer.
I remember middle school,
and how all the girls went through a phase
of admiring you.
I’m not sure if it was you so much
as it was the fact that you were the only
good looking guy in the bunch that hadn’t
been got.
I remember not paying much attention,
until one day,
the last day of classes before Christmas break,
when you started paying attention
to me.
We were in science class,
grouped together with maybe 5 or 6 other kids
playing cards.
I remember you singled me out,
again,
and again.
Everyone noticed.
I noticed.
You, the impossible Alex, were flirting.
Hard.
I don’t remember the whirlwind of how quickly
we got together,
or how time passed.
I only remember the feeling of
pure
bliss.
You told me you loved me on Valentine’s Day.
In a note first,
then out loud with our first kiss.
I remember you sneaking out of class
to hold me in the hallway.
How our teachers knew,
and approved.
I remember spending every
day together,
until I moved.
I remember the heart break,
the grief,
and the phone bill that nearly convinced my
mom to send me back.
I remember how you called me,
every
single
day,
for months,
years.
I remember flying home for Christmas,
at 15,
and surprising you on your doorstep.
I remember that night.
I remember being each other’s
firsts,
and the way we would never know what regret
was, like so many of our friends.
I remember losing touch at 19,
and how I pushed you farther away.
I remember October 24, 2015
at 24
walking past you in a literal crowd of thousands,
in a city far away from us both,
and the way you turned around,
the way we stammered for words,
the way your wife smiled at us
and without hesitation,
knew exactly who I was.
Its only now,
that I understand why.
I just finished telling my partner about you,
and as I described you,
your significance,
I used the words: “the one.”
And I am all the same
to you.
