Sister (part I)

Summary: Charlie is just the best gladiator in the land and the last Amazon alive. Or is she? First part of a series of very small one shots. I decided to try and tell this story this way to try it out. Turns out I love it! Sorry for the mistakes, it’s not beta-d.

Charlie stood right where she was, muscles tensed up and gladius up, waiting for the beast of the man she was fighting to arrive, attacking hard and big but slow, and when the right moment arrived, she was moving like a bolt, under the man’s weapon and hurting him in the hand to make him drop it, then the knee and the ankle, and the guy was in the floor, Charlie’s sword on his neck and crowd cheering at her.

She then sheathed her weapon, looking at the emperor in the eyes as he stood. She was the only one that dared to do that. He gazed back at her and, extending her arm, pointed his thumb to the ground. She didn’t even feel threatened by him anymore. Panem et circenses was everything the people wanted, and she was the circus. She bowed her head slowly and made her way out of the amphitheater to the undergrounds. She was aware of his opponent getting up too and following her.

“Good fight today, Ani” Charlie smiled.

“For you they always are, Trab,” he retorted, and they looked at their employer counting his earnings. “And for him too, of course.”

Charlie snorted out a laugh and went to clean the gladius. She sent a prayer for her sisters to Athena as she always did and then took his tunic to slip it on over her battle clothes. Because, look, an Amazon without sisters and with her chopped off breast uncovered is not the most discreet thing in the provinces. And Charlie likes to be discreet.

She makes her way to her in the home where all of Augustus’ gladiators train and live and she lets herself drop on the bed. But she knows (because the tense muscles, her buzzing head, all of her body tells her) she has too much adrenaline to sleep.

So she gets to the training room, shoots some arrows, lets her Alpha scent tell everybody she’s not really on for a conversation while she picks a dull gladius and sees everybody clear the camp, because nobody really wants to pick a fight with the Red Amazon when she’s like this.

Except that the field it’s not empty. There’s you in it, right breast missing and two staffs in your hands before you throw her one.

“Hey, sister. Wanna fight?”
