Dv8 Live Purpose
Dv8 live
The purpose of dv8 live is to showcase all of the current dv8’s learner’s work. They will be performing all of their own work as a celebration of their time here at dv8.
This event will also be an end of year party for our learners as they have now finished their time here. We want to make this event fun and exciting for everyone involved and the guests we also want to show friends and family the student’s talent in a celebratory way.

DV8 LIVE
On the 10th of July with ran a party for all of the current learners at dv8 Brighton, this was held at the latest music bar. We showcased our talent through fashion shows, performances and films. All of the talent was from our learners and the audience was full of friends and family.
On the build up to the event I helped with the social media, making sure we got the word out and people were invited to make it a success, Making our own décor for the event and also making sure all the learners knows what there where going to be doing on the night. During the event I helped set up the venue with our décor, sorting out the seating for the audience and putting the bunting and banners up. I had to go to the shop and get the props for the fashion girls and use my own initiative on what will work on stage and what the girls would like the use. My job role was going to be front of house however we had a slight problem with not having a compare so I stepped in and ended up presenting the night. This included writing my own script and getting up onto the stage and building up the atmosphere and introducing the performances.
I feel overall the event went really well; the audience were very lively and wanting to get involved and everyone seems to be really enjoying him or herself. I was very proud of myself stepping in half an hour before the event and doing the presenting. There was a time during the night where there was a technical difficulty so I went up on stage and improvised until it was up and running again. I felt there was a problem and I needed to fix it so I volunteered. While doing this I learned that I really enjoyed doing comparing and have gained a new skill that I will be willing to use in future events.
I think the only problems that happened was the technical difficulties throughout the night, some of the films didn’t work and we needed to fill the space with another act meaning the schedule was messed about a little bit. Also I feel we should have informed the tutors of when they needed to go onto give out the certificates as there was a bit of confusion on who was up next. I thoroughly enjoyed the night and so did everyone else, im a very proud of what we did.
Dv8 sussex is ten review
DV8 IS TEN
On Friday the 5th of July we ran a party at the blind tiger club for dv8’s 10th anniversary. The event started at 7:30 and ran on till 10 with 3 mcs performances and a headline act the meows meows.
Before the event started I helped my team set up the venue and put up the décor that we made during the week before. This included setting up the banners for outside the venue hanging the bunting from the stage and overall dressing it up and making it our own. I also took part in the sound check making sure the mics were all in set and everything the performers needed was there. My role at the event included front of house manager and overall care of the guests. I was sorting out the guest list and greeting people when they came into the building making sure they were ticked off on the list and that everyone knew what was happening during the night. During the event I was also in charge of taking the photographs of the guests to put onto the life sized birthday card that I made on the run up to the event.
I feel overall the running of the event went very smoothly and enjoyable, The performers were brilliant and the guests had a good response. The atmosphere of the night was very good and the moral was high, we ended up having almost full capacity while welcoming in the general public to join us in our celebrations.
The things that didn’t work so well would be the timing of the compare. At times things overran and we had to hurry up the compare in order to be back on time. Next time I feel we need to make sure the presenter knows the exact times of the next acts that are on stage and can be short and sweet with the build-up. Also we had some Emacs the show the media work we do here however due to overrunning not many people ended up watching the videos, I think the way they were placed and the lack of knowledge that they were there they got a bit neglected. We had some problems with the acts being unreliable, and many didn’t turn up to the rehearsals and the night its self but we managed to get a few and therefore had more time for the speeches.
I really enjoyed the headline performance and seeing all the guests smiling and up dancing. I was very proud of how we ran things as it was our first big event and was a success. Everything ran smoothly so we managed to enjoy our event with as little stress as possible. Overall the client was very happy with our work and said its more than he could have expected.

Our goals
As an events team running this event our main goals is making sure the client is happy and all his needs were met. To also run a smooth celebratory event with no problems and with happy guests. We need to insure the best possible event for our guest so that means creating a safe environment to make everyone feel comfortable.
My job role
My job role this evening will be front of house manager, a front of house manager has to have good enactive, to be able to solve a problem as soon as it occurs and to make sure all the staff have jobs to do and are carrying them out to the best they can to make the event a success. I have worked front of house before but never a manger so I will need to expand my knowledge of front on house and take charge whens needed. I feel my main challenge tonight as front of house manager would be having confidence in my decisions and to know they are the right things to be doing.
My aim
My aim for tonight is to carry out my job role successfully and to have the client happy with our work and the guest happy and can go away remembering all of dv8's hard work and what we have accomplished.
Charlotte Mair work experience at the fringe festival
For the past month i have been doing my work experience at the warren venue in Brighton where the fringe festival has taken place, i started on the 3rd of may and finished on the 2nd of june. my main duties included front of house so this varied from cleaning up the public places to ripping tickets and looking after artists. throughout my time at the fringe festival i made sure i was always willing to take on every task that was given to me and to do my very best to do them at the highest level i could.
While working i also made sure i did some networking and in result to that i have met some very important people in the industry, for example front of house managers Jez pike and Joe Burns and also director of the whole fringe Julian Caddy.
I feel but doing the fringe festival it has improved my confidence and knowledge of the industry and gave me first hand experience of what it is like to be apart of such a massive event.
