I think we need to bring back the concept of the “Charm Point.”
It was a staple of J-pop idol stat lists/short bios back in the day and it was just some aspect of a person that was just a little different, just a little imperfect--and the imperfection was kind of the point. It made a person unique.
So you’d have a stat list for an idol or a group member and it would be like
Name
Birthday
Blood Type
Hometown
Whatever, whatever, &c for the list
Charm Point:
And, yes, most of the charm points for idols were acceptable imperfections, but there wasn’t a sense of obligate perfection (that seems to radiate from K-pop idols; no hate--they’re just too polished for my taste, but that’s maybe because I’m old enough to remember the Golden Age of Morning Musume).
And I think the charm point should come back for any and all “imperfections” in people. So a charm point could be “funny scar under my nose” or “heavy eyebrows” or “crooked teeth” or “my height!” or “pointy chin” or whatever--something that doesn’t adhere to the beauty standards and instead makes a person’s face/appearance interesting, some detail that you don’t cover up or “fix” or change. It’s something that catches someone’s eye and is “charming” because of it.
If nothing else, when I’m feeling up to it, I’ll think of my funny appearance details (for example, I have a lot of freckles and spots on my skin) as “charm points” instead of imperfections.
