Ria Khan believes she must save her older sister Lena from her impending marriage. After enlisting her friends' help, she attempts to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists in the name of independence and sisterhood.
FINALLY watched polite society after missing it in theaters, it's on fandango streaming free with ads. I love it because it's all about a teen girl doing unhinged escalation until she's actually proven to be justified and then she just does hinged escalation. the thing is, the main character is definitely in the wrong, but since she's justified it's a wrong formula right answer situation. which is extremely entertaining to me, and I love seeing a teen girl go kinda nuts. since her career goals is being a stuntwoman obviously I'm extremely biased towards her due to tokusatsu alignment.
I was surprised by how brutal(ish) the fight scenes were, in one of the sister conflicts they're straight up throwing each other through doors and slamming each other's heads in walls. the main character eats shit a LOT, and it kinda reminded me of that one post about how people shy away from whump towards women. but like, executing what people tend to avoid. after I got used to it I kinda liked it, because this is obviously bollywood-style exaggerated action world, many things happen that would probably result in a hospital stay and they just kinda walk it off. so it ended up being more of that emotional 'aw she can't get a win :(' rather than 'this is violence against women??' for me, though I'd imagine your mileage may vary
the music... the music was SOOOOOO good, and I loved the chapter titles, and I love the text cut ins, it was super dramatic and campy. plus the vibrant colors looked really good. plus the action scenes in the gorgeous wedding outfits were really good, I love when fight choreography and costuming are in perfect harmony. I really like this kinda fun action romp because my delicate sensibilities can't stomach the more brutal violence in action-action movies.
