Okay so, some ideas ideas for the Charming 2018 rewrite I mentioned:
Phillipe and Lenore's relationship is platonic, to show that 'true love' does not neccarily have to be romantic
Phillipe's personality is flipped from in the movie - he is desperately trying NOT to be Charming, trying to be quiet, but you know. Charming curse. But since he has to break the curse, he's sent to find someone to marry, in the hopes that they'll become his one true love.
The Princesses are much bigger characters and are given different personalities to the movie that actually suit them.
Cinderella in particular is much more aligned with traditional portrayals of her, because the way she was characterised in the film was utterly bizzare. Why would you make her a bratty mean girl.
The Princesses thing is that while Phillipe's curse has somewhat influenced them to make them love them, it comes out less obsessively than with most other women due to each of them having been in contact with magic before meeting him (Cinderella and the Godmother, Snow White with the Dwarves and the apple, Sleeping Beauty and her own faries blessing + the Sleeping Curse).
They also know in advance that they're engaged to the same guy, and it's more that they want to see who his true love will really be
It's Phillipe's mother who's alive instead of his father. She kind of wants Phillipe to recreate what she had with his father with his 'true love.' So Phillipe's kind of stuck in his father's shadow
Nemeny's reasoning behind the curse here 'Phillipe's fathers love for me wasn't real, so I'm going to make sure his son never gets to feel real love. I want this kid to grow up knowing that people will lavish him will adoration but he'll always know it was the curse and not the person's actual feelings.'
Also the 'all love will die' thing is changed to to 'Phillipe's heart will break on his 21st Birthday, which will kill him, then the heartbreak will release from his body, turn into darkness and spread throught the kingdom.'
Nemeny's issue is more that the old king lied to her about his true feelings, which it eventually got twisted into 'love is a lie'.
She was actually the one meant to bless Phillipe with charmingness. Which she did. At first she made it seemed like she was going to do the classic, small pinch of a blessing...and then immeditley dumped the whole bag onto Baby Phillipe.
The Princesses get a whole sub plot where they decide to go to Fire Mountain themselves, because the wait is kind of making them all nervous. Especially Cinderella, who's currently under the care of her Fairy Godmother, but is terrified that if she isn't the one to marry Phillipe, then the things her step-family made her feel about herself will be true.
The movie would be much longer than the orginal. I think more animated movies should be longer actually
Also! I'm making most of the main cast people of colour. Spefically - Venezeleun-Colombian Phillipe, Afro-Neuveu Mexican Lenore, Black Cinderella, Chinese Sleeping Beauty/Méiguī, and Black-White Biracial Snow White
I have more plot ideas that I'll make in other posts. Feel free to ask me more or give me ideas!
@frostqueeb @rayzofmelanin since you said you were intrested!
