Heart thing (charminglyxunstable)
“But only technically a witch,” Kai was slurring. They bounced down the alleyway. It was starting to rain, but Alaric was too blitzed to care. “Only tech-nic-al-ly, because I have zero power. Nussink. Nada.”
It all sounded like bullshit, even to Alaric’s inebriated brain. He had a bottle of bourbon back in the apartment, he was sure of it. Nothing was more important than that. Could not risk getting sober, even for a few hours, not right now.
Looking for credible evidence of vampires he hadn’t expected to find an eternal student on his fourth degree with a manic glint in his eye and claims to a magical heritage but when he had, he was gratified to know the guy could drink.
“I c’n siphon it off other witches,” he slurred, and who was holding who up? Alaric had no clue. They edged against a dumpster. “When I was twenty two I planned to kill my whole family, take their power. Dunno why I didn’t do it.”
Alaric pushed himself up against a pile of crates. His head was swimming.
“You’re drunk,” he said, authoritatively.
“You’re more drunker,” Kai argued. “You’re s’posed to be tellin’ me how evil I am. I was gonna do it. My sister Jo, Luke and Liv, and… there were more. Lossa twins.”
“Shut up,” Alaric said, dragging him up by the jacket. Two more blocks and they’d be at the apartment and there would be booze.
And suddenly, Kai was kissing him.
It was too much for his brain to handle.
Alaric kissed back without even really thinking, and then stopped, closed his eyes, buried his face in Kai’s shoulder.
“My wife’s been dead a week,” he said. “I’m using you.”
“I can live with that,” Kai replied, and they bounced against something slightly sticky on the way out into the next block.
