Continuing our celebration of vegetable gardening with vegetables and herbs in the color of purple, we bring you EARLY PURPLE SPROUTING BROCCOLI SEEDS. This old English-type broccoli is flavorful and especially hardy of cold temperatures. Grown both for heads and leaves. Harvest shoots early, then harvest heads when they are tight, before flowers appear. Side heads may continue to produce for several weeks.
Plant in an area with good drainage and air circulation. Plants like partial shade. Can be start as transplants. Seeds germinate in 5-17 days. Plant ¼” deep and 1-2” apart. Plant in the fall 4-6 weeks before the fall frost. Plant in ground when 3″ tall and bury stem 1″ deeper than they were in pots. Plants mature in 59 days.
