Finally drew Charodon again to give him a redesign

Some first-draft development on Charodon, a sophont species I've had on the back burner to redo for quite a while.

Charodon is the only mech who is an active rival against Cutlass, the two having fought frequently and leaving lasting scars. He has a short temper but surprisingly is slow to violently lash out. He knows how to control his strength, but is not one to hold back in a fight.

Charodon leads a group that’s smaller and more secretive than Cutlass’, but they are still a very dangerous bunch that should not be messed with.

Hypothetically, how would one go about joining Charadon’s gang? 👀

Somewhat similar to joining Cutlass, seek him or his buddies out, be prepared for gang members to keep a close eyes on you for a while before you prove you’re reliable and trustworthy. Even then it can take a while, longer than with Cutlass cuz she can always just make you disappear. Charadon isn’t quite as willing to go that far so quickly

Sorry to ask but can we get more lore on Charodon if you have any? He’s a pretty neat character

Charodon, despite his temper and constant snarl, is a pretty patient mech. He spends a lot of his time thinking and stressing about the state of his crew and of Oardivia as a whole. While he is a violent criminal, he does care about the colony in his own way.

His ultimate goal is to prevent Cutlass from taking over, preferably by killing her. Such a goal will likely lead to his own demise, but he’s perfectly willing to make that sacrifice.

It’s not very obvious, but there are people he does care about in his life.

Twisted Monster

Charodon recalls his first encounter with Cutlass.

I won’t claim to be a saint. I know I am not a good person, and I am alright with that.

Despite my many wrongdoings, there is one thing I am not. I am cruel, viscous, a criminal, a murderer.

I am not a monster.

I know what a monster is. I’ve seen one. I’ve fought one. I’ve survived facing one.

Our first encounter was the most frightening. I was still new to the territory, I only had a few members in my gang. We weren’t very organized yet. We were rookies.

We did not know we stumbled into the territory of Cutlass. An honest mistake, yet it cost the life of one of my friends.

I could only watch as she ripped my friend apart. She started small, tearing his fingers off digit by digit. Then his hands. His feet. His forearms and lower legs, then upper arms and thighs.

She finished by ripping his head off. Slowly. She smiled the whole time, her golden tooth flashing, and her eyes bright with excitement.

Apparently she was feeling generous, because she then offered me a deal. An easy one. It should have also been impossible.

“Fight me,” she said, bright pink eyes upturned in her wide grin, “if you last for half an hour, I’ll let you and the remainder of your crew go.”

I did not need her to tell me what would happen if I lost. I accepted the deal.

Cutlass was a brutal fighter. Despite a rather unimpressive physique, she was unnaturally strong and agile. She had no claws, she clearly had no need for them. Brute strength was more than enough to nearly rip my jaw off. The seawater surrounding us quickly turned pink.

She was wild, attacking and attacking and laughing and laughing. She maintained eye contact with me, and I could see something horrid behind the glass. Something unnatural, dark, and hungry. A twisting of sinister thoughts and dreams writhing grotesquely with the desire to see them through.

I clawed at her face in desperation to make her stop looking at me, yet that barely seemed to deter her. She barely reacted to any pain I inflicted, and it terrified me. It took all I had to just keep her at bay.

To this day, I don’t know how I survived those horrible thirty minutes. I think I impressed her. She still has the scars on her face.

I’ve gotten stronger after that first fight, my group has grown and we’re smarter now. I’m strong enough to actually pose some kind of threat. My scars are proof that I survived facing Cutlass multiple times.

I fought a monster. One day, I think I’m going to have to kill her, if she doesn’t kill me first.

While generally being noted for their inquisitive and friendly nature, Oardivians still have to deal with plenty of criminal activities from simple theft and vandalism, to kidnapping and murder. In fact, as they are slowly weaning away from a long lived Golden era, there’s been a spike in criminal and violent gang activity.

There are two major gangs that have created a black market of illegal substances and violent blood sports, as well as fight over territory. The police force has been trying to arrest the gang leaders for centuries, but have had no success.

The colony has a fierce and strong army to defend themselves, as they are often attacked by organic alien raiders who either want to eradicate them, or sell them off as slaves. Some of their most common citizens and toughest soldiers are those with dolphin/orca alt modes.

One notable thing about the colony is that most of the inhabitants have cetacean alt modes (this includes seals and even some extinct species of marine mammals), though there are a few sharks and other fish as well as a few penguins.

The inhabitants of the colony are very active, requiring little sleep, and many having a near constant desire to move around. Sound and hearing is also incredibly important to them, and the city is overwhelmingly busy with movement, color and noise.
