I LOVE FRENCH. I'M GOING TO SAY "BUT WHORE?" INSTEAD OF "WHAT THE FUCK?" FROM NOW ON IN ENGLISH.
@whets
"Give me a pen, call me Mr. Benzedrine/but don't let the doctor in, I wanna blow off steam" - it's obvious because he is a drug dealer; this is Scarecrow (Mr. Benzedrine) wanting to stay in control (the doctor = Jonathan) "When I look at the man who would be king/The man who would be king goes to the desert to song war his dad rehearsed/Came back with flags on coffins and said we won" is an obvious Bush jab from Pete, but it works as a jab at Batman and also Robin you could also interpret Brendon and Patrick's dual vocals to represent both sides of him? (speaking of which "Otherside" is a pretty good song for him welp but that's for another time??) Then "West Coast Smoker" "Wishes bounce me weightless/the infrared scope on pointlessness/the bulls are sedated/and this fight's fixed" is kind of irrelevant but also relevant, the fight involves Bats obviously and "the bulls" are probably other Rogues--the fight is fixed because he can't lose "Don't feel bad for the suicidal cats/gotta kill themselves nine times before they get it right/the PA system keeps my heart, heart beating tonight" is probably also mostly irrelevant ?? "Oh hell yes/I'm a nervous wreck/the drugs just make me reset" is about Jonathan personally "Knock once for the father/twice for the son/three times for the holy ghost" refers to different drugs he's selling "Come on in, the water's warm/come on, like a sugar cube but with a kick in the head/like putting wings on lead" is another drug reference (acid is sometimes injested via sugar cube) and a reference to the Smashing Pumpkins' "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" ("despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage" - not in this song but the reference is obvious, and could refer to either Jonathan in Arkham or being trapped in his own mind) "And your eyes are blocking my starlight" - Jonathan's pov is blocking Scarecrow's "time to shine" "I'm the last of my kind/and that's all that should matter to you/follow the disorganized religion of my head" is Scarecrow's delusions of grandeur as a literal god of fear etc. "And we'll never get through Customs, let's just take off again instead" - well duh, criminals, also refers to stopping to get caught by the law--they'll never get out so they should just escape "Got my degree in the gutter/my heart broken in the dorms of the Ivy League" is supposed to be another Bush jab (also I love Patrick's "EYE AYYY VEEE LEEEEAGUE") but it fits Jonathan really well- heart broken at Gotham University with Molly and then cutting his teeth as a criminal okay yeah FEELS.
if you think about it then "twenty dollar nosebleed" works really well as a jon song esp with "west coast smoker"
also thank you so much to everyone who messaged me with love I wanna say that I love all of you and ugh just thanks
