so the Yours Truly reviews are generally positive.
Maybe I was just expecting too much, but other than what was already released (as singles and "pre-release" songs like "Right There"), nothing really caught my attention other than "You'll Never Know".
It's #1 on iTunes right now, and I'm gonna buy a physical copy as soon as I'm able to (probably Thursday), so I will obviously support her. I hope she debuts well; I'm sure she will.
I'm just wondering what she's gonna do to increase the album's shelf-life/longevity. No songs, as far as I know, are catching as follow-up singles. "Baby I" hit #21, whereas both "Right There" and "Almost is Never Enough" hit #84; they charted due to sales so the first two songs fell off immediately after. I'm sure AINE will fall off next week too. (This is all BB Hot 100 btw.) Airplay for "Baby I" is weak so far, but it just got added over the past few weeks.
Is it bad to want a solid young vocalist to succeed? Not to hate on anyone else, but there's a reason I stan for Mariah: even without the butterflies and rainbow and glitter and faux-fur arm-slings and whatnot, she still has the voice. Granted, her voice now is nothing to her voice twenty years ago, but she can still sing. Now...image supercedes talent. And that makes me sad.
Well. Let's see how this goes.
