So Candaules is the king of Lydians, Gyges is the body guard. Candaules,, embroiled in arrogance entices Gyges to view the queen naked as she is wonderful. She becomes aware of this, an offers Gyges the choice: kill the King or kill yourself for seeing what is “ unlawfull” The king bites it. Gyges becomes king of the Lydians, pretty much not a “ good” king. The queen is never named. Candaules is a descent from Hercules and the slave girl Jardanus. The Queen is never named.
