An experiment in digital painting. I know that I tend to keep my colours too pure and bright which makes things look unnatural. I ended up going too far in the other direction which made this painting end up really gloomy but I still learned from it! It didn’t help that I was trying to do several new things at once. Next time I’ll focus on one thing at a time.
This was an interesting challenge for me because, being still a relatively inexperienced artist, I tend to try to paint things which are familiar (90% women) and aesthetically pleasant. This was the first time I was trying to paint someone really unpleasant. He’s supposed to be really snobby, elitist, impatient and snake-like. He doesn’t even tilt his head to look at people, he just sneers down his nose at them.
He’s to be betrothed to this poor girl to secure family alliances. We have one month to get him to the point where some other woman might willingly marry him. We’re trying to teach him how to be a tolerable human being. Here, his first practice is to ask Melody if he can join her for lunch.
“You seem to have the qualities of a stately woman. I’m taking this chair. Are you offended?”
... we have some work to do
