[Author’s Note: Been thinking about him. Kinda wanna write a Chase x reader book.

Also you and him are around the same age, no weird big age gaps]

There was no antagonist or force of evil in his past marriage.

It was just two people that didn’t mesh well together and that’s okay. Sometimes it happens.

That didn’t stop Chase from blaming himself though. 

He doesn’t like coming to an empty house when ACME is giving him a small break. 

It’s barely decorated, only filled with the necessities. 

And he realizes how lonely he really is. 

He met you while he was on a mission. It was nothing special, just some wannabe thief.

That wanted to blow up a train station for the sake of chaos, just to get their own reputation up and feel evil. 

You were evacuated by him, after the visible exits were blocked off by rubble. 

He held your hand and let you lean on him in your state of panic.

You ended up thanking him by taking him to your favorite cafe.

You learned his name was Chase and he worked as a field detective, currently traveling on a case. 

You and him didn’t mean to stay for long, two hours at the most. Yet the five hours of talking just went by. 

Unfortunately his…pen started ringing and he had to go. Although numbers were exchanged!  

It took Chase a lot of hyping up from Julia, Carmen, Zack, and Ivy for him to gain up the courage to ask you out before he left. 

Where did he ask you out? Right in front of train station. 

You couldn’t help but smile at how dorky he looked. Looking at the ground, stumbling over his words (he accidently used French words instead of English a couple of times) he almost dropped the sunflower bouquet he brought for you. 

You wouldn’t ever regret saying yes. 

He took you to some fancy restaurant in a balcony seat with the best service after he showed the staff some ID you had never seen before. 

After that was a joyride around the city in a really fancy car.

You two laid on the car watching the stars.

It was only the first date you knew he was the one. 

And you weren’t wrong.

YESYESYES I HAVE WAITED FOR THIS REQUEST FINALLY THE GODS HAVE BLESSED ME! I personally headcanon Chase as a bisexual with a lot of internalized biphobia, so we’ll be going based off that! Of course, there’s nothing in canon to support this, but hey, headcanons are fun.

💖 After growing up in such a toxic environment, Chase Devineaux had one thought drilled into his head: he had to be straight.

💖 He didn’t grow up with many gay or bisexual role models, both in real life and on television.

💖 He tries to repress a lot of his feelings, and it’s often led to him becoming snippy. A day where Chase is extra hostile is typically a day when he saw an attractive guy.

💖 He first met you when you were assigned to work alongside him before Julia. Instantly, he finds you handsome and connects with you over cheesy detective films and your enthusiasm to work. He’s hard on you, of course. That’s just how he is with everyone. But he doesn’t berate you.

💖 You’ll be making all the moves, and Chase is STILL oblivious. Coffee dates are just “a couple of bros hanging out.” Sharing a hotel bed? Oh, well, you just think he’s a good friend! (He barely sleeps because oh my God he can’t fathom such a cute guy sleeping beside him.)

💖 He’s panicking when you kiss him. He’s silent for long minutes, eyes wide as his lips tingle. His cheeks are pink. He grasps your arms tight, worried that if he doesn’t you’ll run away—that he’ll run away, too.

💖 Dating Chase as a guy is a lot harder than dating him as a woman. It takes support and constant reassurance and validation. He’s trying. He’s doing everything he can, even if it’s hard.

💖 He’s a very protective partner. He likes to keep his arm around your shoulders and take you home after work. He can’t help but worry that somehow someone will jump out from the shadows and attack you.

💖 He’s big spoon. Fight me. He’s very into his role as a “manly man.”

💖 He leaves your cheeks red and scratchy from his stubble and refuses to shave it, leaving you no choice but to grow some facial hair and get payback.

💖 After the battle of internalized biphobia, your relationship with him will run fairly smoothly. He’s the same old Chase as he would be if he was dating a woman.

💖 He does like to mess around a bit and mess up your hair, though.

💖 I won’t lie, Chase is a very close-minded person, and he probably won’t understand at first. He radiates stereotypes and probably avoids anything he deems childish.

💖 Julia’s probably the one to help him rationalize the plushies, because soft blankets aren’t too big of a deal. (I personally have a collection of both.)

💖 There’s an obvious shift in his mood after he sees your plushies. It was the first time he saw your apartment, and you were so nervous for him to see the few on your bed as it was!

💖 “Does it bother you?” It obviously bothered him.

💖 “No, it’s just...” A hand ran through his hair. “I should get back to the office. Lots of paperwork to fill out.”

💖 “Chase—!”

💖 He was gone in an instant. He felt horrible but couldn’t shake how odd he felt in your room.

💖 He’s very paranoid during work, checking his phone, yet also distant—distracted. Julia gently urges him to open up, and it’s because of her that he began to consider the idea.

💖 “It could be for comfort. Many people sleep with something that comforts them—like a favorite pillow or blanket. I’m sure it’s just for soothing. You have things that comfort you, correct? Even if it’s something as small as a favorite food?”

💖 “Well yes but—”

💖 “It’s no different than that, Detective. If anything, for them to reveal their objects so openly, they trust you very much.”

💖 After a long day of reflecting, Chase shows up at your apartment, a plush bear in hand and apology on his lips.

I originally headcanoned that Chase’s dad passed when he was young—about 19. For this, let’s say Papa Devineaux is still alive, but the two haven’t spoken in a l o n g time. (I should write a full fic for this on AO3.)

💖 It was a big fight when he was nineteen that started this. Now he’s in his thirties, refusing to have anything to do with his father. He still talks to his mother, meeting her for lunch and making sure she is well. He even tells her about you—about how he’s considering proposing.

💖 His mother is overjoyed and begs to meet you, despite Chase’s hesitance. She’s so overjoyed that she accidentally lets it slip to his father, who demands to meet you.

💖 After ages of persistent begging from his mother, Chase agrees, but he gets to choose when and where they will meet you.

💖 It’s a beautiful restaurant half-way between his apartment and his parents’ home, requiring formal attire. Chase hardly dresses up, but he does, mainly so he can show off how radiant you look.

💖 You know small bits and pieces of Chase’s childhood. You know he and his father can’t stand one another, and you’ve never pryed.

💖 Chase is the spitting image of his father in terms of looks. Both men are handsome, with bellicose gazes. His mother is kind and lovely, but Chase inherited very few physical traits from her.

💖 Chase’s father practically interrogates you. His mother tries to be polite and kind to balance it out, but it’s hard to balance out a man saying he could perform a background check on you in five minutes. His mother goes on about how pretty you are, asking how the two of you met. Her eyes show sincerity. His father’s eyes show something much less polite.

💖 The night is tense and awkward, but the last straw is when his father says you’re too good for Chase.

💖 The table is quiet. Chase’s mother hisses a warning. Chase truly looks heartbroken behind his stoic face. It makes your blood boil.

💖 You explode. You create a scene in the restaurant, ranting about all the positives about Chase—how kind he is to you, how he’s always ready to go after what he wants.

💖 Snatching up your coat, you nearly knock over your chair. Chase follows you out. He’s never seen you so furious (and it’s kind of hot that it’s to defend him).

“Of course I did. I love you with all my heart, and no one gets to talk to you that way—even your father.”

Can I get Chase Devineaux on a sick day? (where he's the one who is sick)

💖 Chase doesn’t like admitting that he’s sick. He has a long denial period, saying he’s fine until the illness is unbearable.

💖 He’s shown up to work looking like a zombie, his eyes dead. Still, he waves you off.

💖 Once he’s forced to stay home, it’s an uphill battle.

💖 He’s very overdramatic, claiming he’s either dying or wants to die. He never handles sickness well, and him being stuck at home when he could be out working makes it even worse.

💖 He usually tries sleeping off the illness. He sleeps through the day, which causes him to be up all night, moaning and groaning as you try to sleep.

💖 He’s also very needy. When you’re at work, he texts you constantly. When you’re at home, he wants you in the bed with him, any other responsibilities forgotten.

💖 His words are jumbled in an incoherent mix of French and English. You can barely figure out what he wants.

💖 Running your fingers through his hair and warm soup are his kryptonite, immediately soothing him. When he can’t be soothed, cold medicine knocks him out for a good few hours.

💖 He watches soap operas when he’s sick. It’s all that’s on.
