A design contest for one of my favourite comics? Say No more 👌
@chasing-faith-and-fate is having a design contest for a litter of interesting siblings and I love designing too much to pass a fun lil afternoon of doodling water-themed cats with such interesting sprites 🥰
My design thoughts for these kitties were:
Clearly water themed so they ended up with stylised fur in fin like patterns, manes and tails - these can be made to look more realistic, my style is just very shaped haha
I also liked the idea of fish gills, scales and bones to help the shapes and designs, so all siblings have 'gills', and have variations of ribbed designs (with river's leaning more spidery heh)
Their chests each represent a card suit (since there's four of them!) so there's heart, diamond, club and spade. Blame Eddy for having the diamond on his chest to start with, heh 😋
I imagine them with parents of a mix of slim oriental build x bulky intermediate, so River and Red have heavier thicker builds while Eddy and Salt lean more elegant and long
I know chasingclan's style has kitties with bangs so I took advantage of that for some fun, I picture they're a family with thick waxy fur so River and Eddy push it back out of their faces to be practical, while Red hides behind it and Salt likes to stylise it with her accessories
Lastly I noticed that first-born and order of litters matter in this story (its very interesting 👀 eveyone should give it a read) so I gave each sibling a number of fur spikes 1-4 under the base of the tail to match order I imagine they were born in. (That said if that's already been determined, nix that or ignore it of course)
Designing is always so fun to me 🥰 I really enjoyed doing this and look forward to seeing everyone else's entries!! Chasing faith and Fate is a comic I've been reading for months and absolutely love the world building and spooky atmosphere it builds, and the interesting character turns its taking 👀 It's super inspiring and worth a read so please go check it out if you haven't already!!
