Kevin Smith Teases Releasing 'Jersey Girl: The Snyder Cut' Kevin Smith is up for releasing an extended cut of his maligned 2004 film Jersey Girl, as long as they call it Jersey Girl: The Snyder Cut. As a way of parodying HBO Max's upcoming project Zack Snyder's Justice League, Kevin Smith said that he wants to release a "Snyder Cut" of his 2004 film Jersey Girl. During an episode of his podcast Fatman Beyond, Smith first mentioned that there were no future plans to release a director's cut for any of his films. "There's a very long cut of Jersey Girl, which, recently, Paramount took over Miramax, they've got most of the library and stuff, and they were talking about, 'Hey, we wanna put out Jersey Girl this year,' and I was like, 'Well I have the extended cut, which I've shown at Vulgarthon,' and if they allow me to, I wanna call that 'Jersey Girl: The Snyder Cut.'" Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith starred as Jay and Silent Bob, weed-slinging slackers and partners in crime, in "Mallrats" — and in several other comedies written and directed by Kevin over the years. A year before "Mallrats" opened in theaters, Jason Mewes made his acting debut portraying Jay in "Clerks." He returned to the role in "Chasing Amy," "Dogma," "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," "Clerks II" and "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot." He's also appeared in two other films written and directed by pal and frequent collaborator Kevin Smith: "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" and "Yoga Hosers." But it hasn't always been smooth sailing for the longtime screen partners. The duo were briefly estranged amid Jason's battle with drug addiction, which kicked off in the late '90s. He attempted to get clean several times, but it wasn't until 2010 that sobriety stuck. He reportedly suffered a big relapse in 2009 — the same year he married Jordan Monsanto. They welcomed a daughter, Logan Lee, in 2015. In the original 1995 comedy, Affleck played sleazy store manager Shannon Hamilton, who ended up being sent to prison for statutory rape after he had sex with 15-year-old Tricia Jones (Renee Humphrey). Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Smith said: "The thing that I'm most tickled about is how Shannon Hamilton and his crime from back in the day figures into the current climate. "Shannon comes back as Sen. Shannon Hamilton, and so his redemption arc begins before our movie even begins. His political redemption arc is pretty funny." The original Mallrats follows college student TS Quint (Jeremy London) and his best friend Brodie Bruce (Jason Lee), who take a trip to the mall after their girlfriends break up with them. TS's ex, Brandi (Claire Forlani), is taking part in a dating gameshow at the mall, which was the cause of their breakup, while Brodie's ex, Rene (Shannen Doherty), has just started dating Shannon. Skipping forward in time, the end credits see TS and Brandi getting married, Brodie becoming the host of The Tonight Show, and Shannon going to prison. Kevin Smith has brought his Mooby’s pop-up restaurant to Red Bank, taking over Gianni’s Pizzeria for for a few days to allow the restaurant from "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," "Dogma," "Clerks 2" and "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" to exist for a week in Red Bank.
