love : my muse confronts your muse about why they never say ’ i love you ’ back. // cassian x rosine
you didn’t say it. that’s what he didn’t hear.
“goodbye?” he was ducked under the table -- so sure that rosine was bidding him farewell for the day -- she was already running late, ‘there you are’ he mumbled finally locating his leather gloves, as if he would step on the pitch without his trusty pair -- 8 years and he had never once traded them in they were lucky.
cassian. his rather irritated girlfriend drawing him back to reality as he got up, “i thought you left” looking bewildered by the sight of her. so she hadn’t said goodbye -- brows raised as she didn’t look pleased at all -- no, he would go as far as to say that she was fuming. which was never a good sign --
“what did i do?” he questioned quietly, as he drew closer to her -- knowing better than to blatantly deny it, placating rosine in the morning was better than seeking out a fight, it was too early -- he wasn’t at his peak wit -- she would easily win and he would rather give that to her with less of a fuss.
you didn’t say it back -- you never say it back.
“say what?” exasperated as he was waiting for her to fill in the gaps, because truly - his memory was complete and utter shite -- the distress, the vulnerability in her gaze was cracking the normally jovial exterior to pieces as she said it - i love you.
“oh -- that’s not” he started, so sure he would say that’s not true. as he searched his mind for a moment -- nothing came up. self-disdain was the best way to describe the heaviness that was building up, “rosie --” he murmured, stepping toward her carefully -- by salazar, his girl was a firecracker. “i share my life with you --” he started, hands cupping her face carefully, it was the most honest truth, if he wasn’t on the pitch -- if he wasn’t seeing his parents, truly he was all hers -- she practically lived here with him in montrose. they had set up the floo network so easily so she wouldn’t have to rush back to her flat - she had more of his closet space than he did. “i’m sorry -- i didn’t realize” and it was an apology that was filled with remorse. the last thing he would ever want her to feel is unloved -- undesired, because the truth was he would never be able to thank his parents enough for introducing him to this glorious woman -- cassian worshipped the ground she walked on.
“you’re my home -- i love you” it was like he was releasing a breath that he was holding in -- his lips so gently pressing against hers before they trailed up to that button of a nose and finally her forehead before he held her tightly in a hug. “you have my heart, rosie -- i think we both know that. i’ll get better at saying how i feel, but i never want you to doubt that. i’m going to marry you one day, hopefully sooner rather than later -- truly babe, i’m not getting any younger” he joked. relieved as he saw that bright smile he loved so much -- that self-assuredness in her gaze.
this woman was something else.
