I wish I could play dnd but I have 2 friends and they live kinda far from me so I have no way of doing that :( and also there's no dnd group in my area so I can't even try to join someone else. Closest I got was by using those game books where you go to different parts of the story by making choices? (It's a series of two books based on Lovecraft, titles are Dagon and Carcossa)
