people you'd like to get to know better
tagged by @rizaposting! <3 i haven't done something like this in a very long time!! and i never really talk about myself so heck (also this reminds me of when we were kids on deviantart tagging each other in journal memes SOBS)
last song: Out of Control by Faded Paper Figures - i actually can't remember which song on the album we ended off on listening to it in the car, the whole album is incredible and this one in particular gives me so many feelings
currently watching: would it count to say Distractible LMAO - i started putting it on as background noise in the house a few years ago, made addie realize they enjoyed it, and then played the long con so when iron lung came out i had someone to go see it with. (nah but we do have a weekly routine of watching distractible on the evening it releases and it's a nice little thing to look forward to)
currently reading: i wish i could commit to any book at the moment, but i haven't had a lot of free time to focus on something like that (whereas video games, videos, music are almost always on while i'm also doing something else). :( but i'll give a shoutout to some webcomics i've been following! Bottled Up just relaunched, Slightly Damned is still going strong, and On Borrowed Time just went on break after finishing a really intense chapter (first two are originals, third is a PMD nuzlocke!)
current obsession: to answer this the most simply, i tend to hyperfixate on any given group of OCs i own at any given time, and for the last two years it's been the characters i'm writing about for a personal project. when i drew lex and thorn for the first time about a year ago, they were direct exports of two of the protagonists. since then, lex and thorn developed into their own standalone characters, who i've now started drawing in other AUs based on my more fleeting interests (rain world, neopets, PMD/pokopia).
so the less simple answer is, those OCs and also lex and thorn LMAO ////// if you want a less cringe answer, then, well, my love for rain world is evergreen and i still think about it on a daily basis
currently working on: okay so. that personal project? also the thing i've been occasionally tagging posts as secret wip? (not because i'm trying to create this big air of mystique around it, but because i haven't decided yet how much of it i want to reveal while i'm working on it.) well!! i've been working on that, but not as much as i'd like to because my life has been kept busy thanks to 10 hour work days and a land shrimp called a Puppy. mostly it's been rattling around in my head while i agonize over whether or not i'll ever actually work on a story ever again,
last google search: not counting the things i had to look up for linking in this post... "pokemon 30th anniversary logos" LMAO which i found here, in case you wanted that too
i tag @missclovercat, @shiny-meowstics, @whimsicmimic, @azurefallingstars, and @voltali (no pressure of course, just thought it'd be fun!) also any of my ask blog friends reading this, feel free to snag this for munday!!
and if you made it to the end, here's the land shrimp herself:
this is a bit of a silly question, but: what are some ways you’ve seen in media that hints or reveals at a character being trans, when it’s not relevant to the plot (or has made it so people have interpreted the character as trans even if it’s not directly confirmed)?
looking for positive examples, so nothing where the punchline or implication is transphobic!
had a silly thought/headcanon about rain world as implied by The Watcher (spoilers for the main ending!)
so we've seen that the ancients all had pretty long names (like Six Grains of Gravel, Mountains Abound), and while the iterators follow the same general naming scheme, they're much shorter (Five Pebbles/Unparalleled Innocence/etc)
assuming Spinning Top is her canon name and not just a nickname for the code, to me that implies the ancients' children were given shorter childhood names, and received a full name once they reached adulthood—especially since Spinning Top seems to be named after her favourite toy.
the name Spinning Top also lines up with the short naming scheme of the iterators. in vanilla, there's already reference to the fact that the ancients were the iterators' parents, even if only symbolically. based on these things, it can be assumed that the iterators were named as if they were ancient children!
i always adhered to the headcanon that the iterators' puppets were child/doll-sized and that slugcats were small, which is somewhat reinforced in the Watcher's main ending; i still interpret the room sizes as being exaggerated, and also that the shadows are being stretched by the direction of the lighting. i also uncharitably thought this was deliberate so that the ancients could feel powerful next to their creations, but now i think it's more likely it was done out of fondness.
it could also be symbolic, to show how the iterators don't age the same way fully organic beings do, and they've been stuck with their Big Task for all eternity... but that's reading into things.
so you know how a couple of months ago i had surgery and had to be low activity for many weeks?
i kind of made mention of it in a few posts but i’ve been learning a bit of C# so i could make mods for rain world
it started with me wanting to make my slugcat OC using a template (it’s made by SlimeCubed, who deserves a shout-out anyway), so i could play as him on a casual playthrough… then i decided i wanted to try making some additional little tweaks for myself, and whoops, now i’m coding for fun
i haven’t made anything i feel confident enough releasing yet, and i can only really do pretty basic things, but i’m learning!!! and coding is kind of the perfect hobby when you’ve been instructed not to lift anything over ten pounds
and i just really wanted to share that!!! i don’t know if people would be too interested in lex if i released him as a playable slugcat, but it’s kind of my pet project right now to keep making little tweaks to his code, so maybe i’ll make a really basic version of him available :D
deciding to revisit my Rain World Interpretations/Reimagining/whatever you wanna call it and i've had this thought forever now but don't think i ever verbalized it??
i do think it's cute when people put the iterators' insignia on their associated slugcat, or in some other way signify they "belong" to that iterator (putting something of NSH on hunter, for example).
except when people do that with suns and spearmaster, it directly contradicts (at least imo) the source material, because the whole point was that suns didn't want pokey to garner any attention from the other overseers, going as far as to not even give them a mark of communication so other iterators wouldn't find them suspect.
which. putting the spearmaster in bright red clothing with sun imagery on it, or giving spearmaster suns' cutie mark, REALLY DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF THAT I THINK
maybe suns would do that after spearmaster retires as a messenger, but i get the feeling that people who do that with their smaster design have only interacted with the game by way of inaccurate lore videos
testing some mod stuff and found this beautiful skrunkly fellow
