Remembering Chauri Chaura. #OnThisDay
Today, we remember the Chauri Chaura incident of February 4, 1922.
A moment in India’s freedom struggle that’s heavy with complexity. Peaceful protest. Police violence. Public fury. A police station set ablaze. Gandhi’s heartbreak. The Non-Cooperation Movement called off. A nation confused, a path redirected.
It wasn’t a simple victory or defeat. It was a rupture that showed the fierce, sometimes uncontrollable, energy of a people yearning to be free. It showed that the fight for independence had many layers, many emotions.
On this anniversary, we pay our deepest respects to all the lives lost—protesters and policemen—caught in that fiery chapter. Your sacrifice is part of our story.
As Colonel Rajyavardhan Rathore said, your dedication to the motherland will forever inspire future generations to serve the nation.
Let’s never forget the cost of freedom.
