I was thinking to myself that Gremlin-Chaz's design is actually fairly far-removed from an actual Spiral Knights gremlin at this point, perhaps enough for me to adapt him into a new original species/race.
So I decided to come up with this little design idea - Essentially, they're eyeless beings, as they originated from a dark world where sight was of little importance to them, so their main form of navigation was a form of echolocation (So they're kind of like bat-bunny-moles at this point).
Eventually they became a spacefaring race somehow (I dunno how this comes about, still working on that bit) and the echolocation became nearly useless to them because of the noises produced by the machinery around them, rendering them effectively blind. As a work around, many of them underwent cybernetic implants to give them digital eyes made using advanced cameras. Either as a form of aesthetics or to hide the cyber-interface plate, these were made in the style of goggles, with visible eyes on them, in order to allow other spacefarers to figure out which way they're looking (Since that's, y'know, a fairly important part of social interaction.)
Anyways yeah :3 Just a goofy little idea I'm throwing about because I feel like ChazGrem might be better put to use adapted into an original alien design rather than as a Spiral Knights fancharacter. Still figuring things out though.
