This morning I finished going through Rebound’s documentation, so it’s onto tackling some examples and familiarising myself with the code in general… wish me luck 🫣

Reading over the notes for the solar physics module I’ll be taking this year :) I love to do academic reading with an inappropriate soundtrack, lol
🎵The Spectral Sorrows Album - Edge of Sanity

After a lot of printing, I’ve got together all the resources for this year’s modules, so I can start with some pre-reading along with the rest of my to-do list for September. Now that’s done, I’m chilling with a cup of tea in my hand, a cat on my lap and a beautiful album on the turntable :)

It’s been a while, both because I haven’t had much academic stuff to do over the summer, and because my results from last year weren’t ideal, leading me to have a long, hard think about whether I even wanted to go back for fourth year. As you can see from this post, though, I’ve decided to give that a go – even though it means the dreaded task of learning sufficient Python to deal with the Rebound integrator. Last time I started looking at it, I ran into some problems which put me off for a few weeks, but I got back on it this morning and found the issue, so now I’m chugging ahead with making some notes on the documentation. I’ve also read the few theory papers my supervisor sent us, which were interesting and not too taxing in terms of new concepts. I’m still nervous about the project, but feeling better now I’ve made a proper start on getting to grips with the computational side, which will be the biggest challenge for me. That aside, I’ve had a summer job which is going fairly well and I’m enjoying, and have been getting out of the house regularly, which I haven’t always been great at during the holidays. Hopefully those positive personal developments along with some academic progress will continue, and I’ll build up more confidence for fourth year come the end of September :)

After the joys of an animal sanctuary visit yesterday (ft a delicious vegan chicken burger), it’s back to uni prep + work today. It’s my first evening shift, so I’ve spent the morning doing personal chores and now continuing to review the notes for this year’s plasma module before that :)

A chilled morning getting through some of my YouTube watch later + a long walk accompanied by Tool’s Lateralus + a bit of academic reading to finish reviewing the required papers for this year’s distant universe module :)
